Seeking Suggestions on What to Do/see in the Baltimore/Washington DC Area

My husband and I are taking a quasi vacation (me)/work trip (him) to the Baltimore/Washington DC area in January 2008. We've lived there before and know tons of stuff to do and see but nothing that we think our 4-year old little girl will want to do/enjoy. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do/see in this area that a 4-year old would enjoy? Any book suggestions similar to "Exploring Dallas with Children" by Kay Threadgill?

What can I do next?

If you do go to Baltimore, I would definitely take your daughter to the National Aquarium. It is one of the best aquariums I have ever been to....she will love it!

We also lived in DC, before moving back to Dallas, and I took my three year old with me on a business trip. She stayed with my sister who had just moved to the area. They went twice to Mt. Vernon outside of Alexandria, VA, and my daughter loved it. I took her to the National Zoo, which I had not visited when I lived there. We had a great time there. It was October when we went, so I don't know how cold it will be to do outdoor activities at this time of year.

When I worked there, my employer was going to do a Website for the Childrens' Museum. I believe it was on the Red line to Silver Spring (in Maryland or NE DC). I can't remember the exact name, but it looked like a fun place if it is still around.

Have a great time!

We went to the area during the Cherry Blossom fesitval this year with our three year old. She really enjoyed actually climbing the stairs of the Lincoln memorial. We used the stroller and walked the mall. We also went to the National Aquarium in Baltimore, she loved it! We didn't get to the National Zoo but it's free and I heard it's fun too.

We just had a vacation in DC in October and we took our 2 & 4 y.o. daughters. They loved going to the top of the Washington monument and looking out the windows. Also, they really enjoyed the Smithsonian Natural History Museum (the one with the dinosaurs and large mammals). Also, in the Air & Space Museum, they have a temporary exhibit for the American History Museum because it's closed now for repairs/whatever....my daughters loved seeing Dorothy's ruby slippers, Kermit the frog, etc. Don't miss it! Have a great time.

We've been to the DC area a few times and there is a lot to see and do for us because my 13 yr old is interested in the history.

Last time, we stayed at the Omni (not sure where) but it was within walking distance to the zoo and we spent the day at the zoo. Very nice zoo and we both enjoyed it.

Have fun
Susan
