Does anyone have the name of a piano teacher who does private lessons in this area? My 10 year old little sister has been playing since 1st grade but hasn't progressed very far with her current teacher. She is very smart and actually writes a lot of her own music, so I think she may just need someone with whom her personality meshes better. We have a piano in our home and are also willing to drive her to her lessons. Let me know!

What can I do next?

Rosemary Massingale in East Plano is wonderful. She is great with kids and takes her teaching very seriously. Her number is ###-###-####. She is a member of Plano Music Teacher's Association and you can get her contact information from them as well.

Hello E.,
I am a piano teacher but I live in Murphy. I'm afraid that's too far but if its not, I'd be glad to meet with you and her and see if I can help. Otherwise, tell me a little more about where you live and I'll see if I can find a good teacher for her. THere is RMTA and PMTA - Richardson Music Teacher's Association and Plano's - that both have teachers near you. I know for RMTA you can go to their website and enter your zip code but I'm not sure if you'd find anybody close enough. Anyway, feel free to email me back or call me at ###-###-#### and I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Good luck!

Try www.takelessons.com. I found my 15 year old daughter's viola teacher through this site when her previous teacher moved away :-(. She loves him! He also teaches piano, and recently he started working with my daughter on basic piano lessons and how to compose music, etc.

If she enjoys writing music and will actually practice, I would suggest Toni Austin Allen in McKinney. She is a very creative teacher. My older daughter took from her for 3 or 4 years and enjoyed her teaching style. She learned composition, improvisation as well as traditional piano stuff. She gives hour long lessons, so I don't usually recommend her for very young students. My daughter started taking from her in 4th grade though. One spring, she had each of her students compose a "rain forest" themed piece of music and found each of them one written by a composer. It was one of the most unique recitals I've ever attended. She also had them record their music on a CD the week before the recital and proceeds from the sale of the CDs went toward saving the rain forest in South America. My daughter went from the Bastian books and not being able to move from a 5 finger position, to writing music for several instruments in the course of a couple of years. Good luck! I find not many piano teachers teach improv and composition, so when you find one, treasure them!
