My 4 y/o daughter is a little over weight due to a disorder she had. Dr's. have run many test on her to test for diabetes, thyroid conditions, etc., and nothing. she eats very healthy maybe a little sugar here or there but nothing over the norm. I don't allow over indulgence in junk foods. I am looking for a pediatrician that specializes in dealing with kids like this. Her current pediatrician and the staff there is not sensitive to this, my daughter has a slight complex. They've said loudly that she's overweight and other mean things. Me as a mom had to hold my tongue a few times. My daughter hates going to the doctor and I need to get her in with someone asap.

What can I do next?

We see Dr. Christensen and Dr. DeStefani in Glen Ellyn. A female peds Dr recently joined their practice, I don't remember her name, but I'm almost positive she specializes in childhood obesity issues. Their # is ###-###-####. Good luck!

Hi there-

This Doctor was in the practice that we use to take our children to. Everyone raved about him. He even wrote a book: http://www.amazon.com/No-Gimmick-Guide-Raising-Fit-Kids/d.... His office is out of Carol Stream. Hopefully, it will be a good resource for you. Sorry to hear that your daughter has been treated so poorly.

Please start with taking charge and helping your daughter. No sugar! There is no need. Your daughter will be healthier and happier without it :) Give LOTS of delicious vegetables, fruits, lean protein, whole grains and skim milk :) Low fat yogurt and cheese are good snacks or desserts, too. Use olive oil instead of butter and no refined white products, so have whole grain brown pasta, brown rice, 100% whole wheat brown bread... It sounds like a good plan for the whole family! And make exercise fun -- walking together, jumping... Healthy eating and exercising will also improve your daughter's behavior and sleep!!! Please give your child the gift of health for her life.

If you don't have any luck near your home, I would suggest you take your daughter to the Nutrition Clinic at Children's Memorial Hospital. They specialize in the treatment of overweight and underweight kids. You can call 1-800-KIDS-DOC to make an appointment. Hope you find the right clinician to help you and your daughter!
