hi moms-

does anyone have any recommendations for pediatricians/obgyns in the pelham ny area? i am moving there shortly and need advice. i'd prefer a female obgyn, but i don't care about the gender for the pediatrician. also, i'll need babysitting or even part time nanny help, or at least a cleaning service! we are planning our second baby soon, so i would really like to have a support system in place as my husband works a LOT of hours and i'll be on my own w/ my 2 yr old and a newborn. thank you so much for the help! hey if any of you live in that area and would like to get together any time after mid april, that would be great too!

What can I do next?

Hi C.,

I live in New Rochelle, minutes from Pelham, and have a 17 month-old daughter. Her pediatrician since birth has been Dr. Hilary Smith at Pediatric Associates of Southern Westchester in New Rochelle. Dr. Smith and Dr. Heather McGowan are both very nice and the practice is professional and friendly. Most importantly (in my opinion), they are very responsive during those unforeseen moments -- fever of 102 at 3am, etc. Here is their web site: http://www.soundshorepediatrics.com/default.htm

As for ob/gyn, since you are thinking about baby #2, I highly recommend that whomever you pick is affiliated with either White Plains Hospital or Greenwich Hospital. Both of these maternity wards are top notch and have state-of-the-art level 3 NICU's. My Ob/Gyn is Dr. Vanessa Grano with the Westchester Medical Group, based out of Rye (right off exit 19 on I-95). It only takes me about 15 minutes to get there from New Rochelle. Dr. Grano has been phenomenal in so many ways. She is very popular and in high demand but she makes you feel like a real person, not a number. She has an excellent bedside manner. Here is the web site (the office is on Theall Road in Rye): https://www.westchestermed.com/portal/About+Us/default.aspx

The bonus is that she is affiliated with Greenwich Hospital (only about 20 -25 minutes from Pelham) which is where I delivered my daughter. I can't say enough good things about this hospital -- the staff is incredible and the maternity ward feels more like a nice hotel than hospital. They even have a pull-out sofa in each (private) recovery room for your husband. They really know how to take care of you.

Good luck with the move to Pelham. Drop me a note if you are interested in chatting further! -L.

I already see you have good answers. Being my my forties, and having lived in Pelham and/or Manhattan most of my life, my family and I have been to all types of doctors over the years in the general area. The very best, by a mile, is Susan Kahn. If every doctor was as helpful, down to earth and knowlegeable as she, I would actually visit doctors more. I can't say enough nice things about this professional, and I recommend her to every parent I know, even if they live in another part of Westchester County. One visit and you will know why.

I have a great pediatrician I would highly recommend in Pelham. The practice is Pelham Pediatrics, ###-###-####. The primary doc is Susan Kahn and she has two other MDs on staff with her. All three are mothers and they're all great. They are open Mon-Sat and always fit us in for emergencies.

Hi C.,

I live in Tuckahoe and have a great pediatrician located in White Plains. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from where you are, but worth it. Her name is Dr. Avvocato - funny name, but she is great and works with 2-3 other doctors. The group is called Westchester Park pediatrics and they are located at 222 Westchester Avenue, off of 287. Phone number is ###-###-####.

My ob/gyn is also in white Plains and also part of a group. her name is Catherine McGovern and she's part of Scarsdale Medical Group. They are located on Maple Avenue right next to White Plains hospital. She delivered my daughter (now 3) and I am now expecting our second child. I have been very happy with them. Their number is ###-###-####.

I don't know any babysitters, but I did find a great daycare center through the following website:

www.childcarewestchester.org

They are very thorough with background checks and everything and I am absolutely thrilled with the daycare center they referred me to.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
