Hi D.,

I am a mother of two beautiful girls also. My situation is a little different in that my husband decided he did not want any responsiblity anymore and left us. I was a stay-at-home mom also and have started to work part-time. How old are your girls. Mine are 5 and 3. We live in the Alexandria/Kingstowne area.

Hi Deb..

I am 43 and have two kids. Been a single mom for a long time. My kids are 19(in college) and 4(in pre-k). Anything is possible to continue life. It takes teamwork, friends and family to support. I have never been "a stay home mom" as I have been working full-time since I was 23 except 3 years as a volunteer working abroad (Thailand). Once our children enroll school full time, things will get easier with work schedule. I am truly sorry for your loss and hope things will become better soon.

I am so sorry for your loss as well. While I am blessed to still have my husband, my father died when I was nine, so if you need any advice in terms of helping your daughters through this difficult time, please feel free to use me as a resource. I'm sure my mom would be happy to speak to you about her experiences as well, if you're interested. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I am very sorry for your loss. I am not in your same situation- not even close. BUT I am married to an active duty service member, who has spent the last two years overseas. He is home now, and we just recently moved here from OH. For the time being he is here, but that will change soon. He is constantly gone and works long hours- this is the life I married into, and it leaves me pretty much in the single mom capacity. While I cannot possible know what you have been through- I know what it is like to be alone, I now the worry and the fear of possibly losing my husband when he "travels", I know what it is like to be left raising the kids, I have three. I also have spent a lot of time with other wives and helping deal with their losses, and being a friend. If you would like to talk, or email, or whatever I can do- please let me know. I am in need of some new friends here in a new place.

I am so sorry for your loss and just recently joined and saw your post. I too am widowed. My husband was in the Army, Airborne Infantry, and was killed in Afghanistan on July 25, 2005. We were right in the middle of adopting my sisters son (another story) and since his death I have finished the adoption. We were married for 5 years and he was the best thing that ever happened to me. I know how hard it is for you right now and what you are going through. Please contact me if you need someone to talk to you. I wish you all the best and a hug.
