Hello, I live on the northwest side of Chicago and am looking for beginner's dance and gymnastics classes for my almost 4 yr old daughter. I don't mind traveling if the program is highly recommended. Any suggestions?

I live on the northwest side of Chicago as well and my son has been doing gymnastics at the Peterson Park Gymnastics Center on Pulaski (by Bryn Mawr) for a year. It's amazing, it's a full gymnastics facility and the teachers are great. It's also affordable; it's part of the Chicago Park District. It also has dance classes.

There is a new facility opening up in 2010 near the Niles/Chicago area called Gymnastic Stars Academy. Their website is www.gymnasticstarsacademy.com. They are gearing up to be the best training facility in the area focusing on a family oriented environment. Check them out and fill out their online survey.

Just about all the parks offer both classes.
Registration is still open. Some classes fill up very early. I waited in line for an hr to get my daughter into Tap and Ballet.

The Dance Academy, Irving and Central, is great. They are Mamasource members (see Member perks for coupon and link to website). My daughter loves it there.

We've been very happy with the Little Gym, on Lincoln near Belmont. Our son has taken karate there and is now on his second session of dance classes. It's very age-appropriate - basic intros to tap, creative movement and ballet, with some gymnastics as well. What's nice is that the kids get some basic instruction but it's not a high pressure situation at all. It's probably a little more expensive than the Park District options, but they do have different payment schedules.

As one person already said, the Peterson Park Gymnastics facility (5800 N. Pulaski) is excellent. We have been going there for the last several months. There is a parking lot as well. You can sign up now for next session at chicagoparkdistrict.com which starts at the end of this month. I think it is @$50 for 10 weeks of classes. Class is one hour.

Have you looked at Chicago Park District? The programs at the Broadway Armory for gymnastics are great. They have serious equipment and great instructors. My three year old twins have taken classes there.

I don't know the name of the place but it's on Northwest Highway in Norwood Park, right north of Raven, on the south side of the street. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very inexpensive and the girls love it. If you want, I can find the name out for you and let you know.
