I am interested in if people provide lunch for the nannies that watch their child/ children in their home? Do you take taxes out of their salary? What is the going rate for a nanny? Thank you for your help and opinions! I truly appreciate it.

What can I do next?

Of course you provide lunch for her. I used to nanny and always ate with the kids, all meals. I worked for cash so taxes weren't an issue.

Our nanny brings her own lunch also. We pay her $12 per hour and also pay the taxes (for tax amounts, check out breedlove-online.com).

Actually, my nanny generally brings her own lunch (this is of her own doing) and if/when she does eat our food -- I can not tell. We pay her $12/hour to watch one infant/toddler. We found this to be the going rate in the city for experienced nannies.

Providing lunch is up to you. I've always offered anything in the house to them. As long as they aren't taking advantage of it. I don't take taxes out I have them file as self-employed. Going rates I've seen are $10-15 on average. Hope this helps

I have worked as a nanny in the city for the last seven years and yes you should provide lunch. There were times that I would bring my own food, only because I never knew if the house would be stocked enough to feed me. If your nanny is uneducated and has not worked for very long, I would pay about $10 to $12 an hour. I have an early childhood development degree from DePaul and I would not take less than $12 an hour. I strongly reccomend getting someone with this degree if you can find them. I worked for an agency called Teacher Care. I also filed my own taxes as an independent contractor. It helped that my husband is an accountant. If you pay your nanny cash under the table be aware that you can get caught and if you or your husband is a lawyer or accountant then you can lose your license. If you live on the northside feel free to give me a call, I have two beautiful children and am starting my own daycare out of the home. I will only take one or two children so that I give more one-on-one attention. My number is ###-###-#### and my name is D.
