Hello, I am so desperate to find a doctor who delivers at Winnie Palmer Hospital downtown, and I've been through 2 doctors now who do not have the time of day for me. I have Medicaid and are hoping to find a doctor who accepts my insurance. The last two doctors Ive had have done nothing but rush rush rush! and do not answer my questions, nor ever seem to care to know you. Just to get an idea... my last visit was last Tuesday and I was up the whole night before nervous about having questions. I was even sure to schedule an appt for the first patient of the day, telling the office staff that I needed a few minutes with the doctor. They said it would be no problem. I saw my doctor that morning and as soon as I started asking questions, he looked at me and said "are you going to talk or are you going to let me talk?" Followed by... "Im not going to explain it now because Ill just have to repeat it in 6 weeks" when I had a question about delivery. Needless to say, Im afraid to go back to him after that experience. Im getting so close to my due date and do not feel comfortable going back to him. So... ANY recommendations/references are HIGHLY appreciated! ____@____.com

So What Happened?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the suggestions! I called quite a few practices, and unfortunately not many take my insurance. I was getting very discouraged and ready to give up. On Friday I got pretty sick and I was convinced to go to the ER at South Seminole Hospital, right down the street. They brought me to the maternity section to monitor the baby and check me out also. I had a wonderful, very informative nurse and Bryan and I started inquiring about their labor/delivery rooms, policies, etc, and if it was possible to set up to tour the facility, the nurse says "Oh, once your dressed, Ill take you on a tour!" She took us to the beautiful, big birthing suite - it was like 2 rooms in one (bed/living areas, fridge, jacuzzi tub, explained EVERYTHING, volunteered so much information, showed us the post delivery room, the nursery... Ive been trying to even just TALK to someone at Arnold Palmer about tours for 4 weeks now! No one returns my calls or gives me any information! The nurse gave me a reference to a doctor that delivers at the South Seminole Hospital, and he has 2 midwives with his practice. She states they take medicaid and highly recommends them. So on Monday Ill be calling and hopefully, cross my fingers! they will accept me into their practice! Im pretty far in the pregnancy so it does worry me about getting accepted, but hopefully! I was very impressed with the cleanliness, the personnal attention, and the staff that evening, hopefully its an accurate impression and I get everything straightened out for myself.

August 8th - Update. Made an appointment with Dr Climers office. Saw a wooonderful midwife, Peggy Taylor, and she sat and spoke with me for a good 20 mins on a very personnal level. The office staff was GREAT. Very welcoming. Amy in particular (the catch-all for the office, she refers to herself as!) Peggy scheduled a ultrasound for tomorrow, to check on baby's status. She says Im measuring pretty big.. which has been in question all along, but she's the first to take action. Im so happy, can't wait to see my little tyke again! They're so exciting! And great for "peace of mind". So, so far so good with this office, I can't thank everyone enough for your advice and references! Mamasource has been wonderful to me!

My OB group, OB & GYN Specialist deliver at Winnie Palmer. I specifically see Dr. Bhullar and have been completely satisfied with the services I get. Not only is he very nice, he is also very intelligent and seems to keep up with what's new in medicine.

I've seen some of the other doctors in the practice as well but have not always been satisfied with some of them. The only other doctor I liked was Dr. D'Heureux-Jones. I've seen Paula Mix and Carolyn (I can't remember her last name) who are ARNP's and they were nice too.

I'm not sure if his practice takes Medicaid or not, but I hope they can be of help with you.

They have an office in Oviedo, Winter Park and Sandlake. Their phone number in Winter Park is ###-###-####.

Hope this helps.

P. S. I agree with Sonia that if you call the group she says, don't see Nancy Brown. I didn't like her either.

K.,

The doctor who delivered my baby at Arnold Palmer last September belongs to Physicians Associates of Florida (paof.com) and he is fabulous. He's very sweet and gentle and he takes his time with his patients. But I've never been able to see him without waiting an hour. Although the staff is very accommodating for women who are close to delivery. His office is over in Hunter's Creek. His name is Dr. John Farnella. He accepts Medicaid. I don't know what the delivery situation is now, because Winnie Palmer was not completed when I went in, but it was terrible at Arnold Palmer when I delivered. There were women there who had been waiting for DAYS to have their babies. It was over crowded and they were under-staffed. But I think it had to do with the construction of the new building. If you do see a doctor from PAOF any one of them could deliver your baby at Arnold/Winnie Palmer. It depends on who is on call that day. I was fortunate to have my doctor around when they finally decided to do an emergency C-section. The other doctor attending to me was Dr. Jorge Londono, also of PAOF. I would recommend him as an excellent physician, but I don't know what it's like to visit him in his office. Dr. Farnella accepted me as a patient on Medicaid at 25 weeks and he treated me like I had been his patient for years. If you are looking for someone who genuinely cares for his patients, I strongly recommend him. The office number is ###-###-####. I drive an hour to see him, even though the wait is so long once you get there. And every nurse in the office knows who I am. They make me feel so comfortable.

Check out the PAOF website and see if you can find someone close to you. The nice thing is that they all deliver at Arnold Palmer. Good luck in your search. I hope you are happy with whatever you find. Good luck with your new baby!

Hi K.,
I am a birth doula so I am familiar a few of the OB's in Central Florida. Not sure which doctor you were seeing but I am very glad to hear that you are switching. If you are set on going to Winnie Palmer then I would like to suggest that you try to get in with Partners In Womens Healthcare and tell them you would like to see Yasmine Kareem, (DO NOT let them set you up with Nancy Brown), Leigh White is also in that practice but my first choice would be Kareem. If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me directly if you would like at ____@____.com Good Luck

I can not recommend enough the place where I had my daughter. It is called the Birthing Cottage of Winter Park - 434 Grove Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789 - ###-###-####. They accept all sorts of insurance including Medicaid.

I am a mother of four children. I have a 7 year old, twins who are 3 and my daughter who is 1 1/2. Both my first and second deliveries where at a hospital and with a doctor. I know exactly what you are talking about. Its not ok and what you are looking for is not unrealistic.

I came across the birthing center and once I visited it, I knew it was perfect! They are trained midwives who have delivered hundreds and hundreds of babies. You go to the center and all over the walls are pictures of Moms with their newborns. Our picture is up there too! I still keep in contact with the woman who helped me deliver my daughter, that is the type of connection you hope to have with someone who is sharing such a personal and important moment with you and your family.

Their visits are about an hour or longer if you have questions or want to talk about the birth or anything. Its more of a conversation about you, how your eating, feeling, questions you may have, etc. My birth was wonderful. I had two midwives who were on call for my delivery and they catered to me and my baby. It is very much about you feeling comfortable as they know if you are comfortable, so is the baby, because the baby is affected by mom's emotions. Their is a whirpool for you to labor in if you want, a lake nearby to walk around.

I know it is a little far for you, but I would highly recommend to you to check it out. It sounds like what you are looking for. What ever choice you make, continue to be strong in listening to your instincts and be comfortable with your choice. Keep searching with an open mind and you will know when it's right for you.

If you want, you can contact me at ____@____.com

Best of luck to you!
A.
