Seeking a New Doctor.....

I am looking for a new Pediatrician that will take the time to give me all of my options. Whether they are Homeopathic or whatever I would just like to have all of my options when dealing with the health care of my daughter. I just went and had her vaccinations but did not realize that I could create a different schedule for her than what the AAP recommends, for example I could have chosen to use the Dr. Sears schedule. I asked my Dr. for advise but I do not feel that I was given enough information to base my decision on. Any good Pediatricians out there....Homeopathic maybe? Thank you!!

We really like Dr. Vanita Shori in Grapevine, affiliated with Cook Childrens. She let us decide our own vaccine schedule and isn't pushy about it either. She's very understanding and thorough and tends to underprescribe meds which I love.

I know someone recommended her, but I went to Sharon Dennis and, unless you live in Arlington, NOT worth the traffic imo. She actually deemed my son as "failure to thrive" which means neglect on our part because of his weight. She never took the time to realize he's ALWAYS been under the 10th percentile! Then she didn't even make a big deal about it to us while we were there and told me to just feed him yoplait yogurt...um, okay! I mean I liked her but did not like that she wasn't up front with us and went behind our back to write that on his chart.

We do selective vaccines and are opting out of some altogether. It has been HORRIBLY difficult finding a doctor who will let you do it AND who understands WHY you're doing it. To me it's different if they "let" you delay but if they haven't done the research themselves they have no clue why.

With that said my recommendation would be Dr. Chris Schlottmann (he goes by Dr. Chris). He's in Flower Mound on the very south side of 1171. He has done a LOT of research on the vaccines himself and delays them and denies some for his own children. He's a D.O. (and one of the only ones in the FW area that actually USES the manip he was trained with, another AWESOME quality imo) and is pretty informative with alternative treatments as well. He's not quick to prescribe stuff just to prescribe and he'll def. take the time to talk with you. I hope you can try him out, I'm sure you'd like him. Oh, even though he's not a pediatrician (he's family med) he's AWESOME with kids and is more thorough than most of the peds that I have went to.

His info. is:
Chris Schlottmann, D.O.

Dr Vanita Shori or her partner Dr Hopkins.
1600 Lancaster Dr # 102, Grapevine, TX 76051
###-###-####
Affiliated with Cooks Childrens Hospital

I have worked primarily with Dr. Shori, however Dr Hopkins worked with us a little as the doctor on call after delivery. Dr Shori is extremely kind, gentle, and is a great listener. My husband is extremely paranoid about every possible illness or drug, and she is very patient and listens to our concerns. We have our son on a slightly altered vaccination schedule, and she gave us her advice, but respects our wishes. We drive over there from Arlington because we love her so much. We also really liked Dr Hopkins. He has a lot of energy, is very thorough, and is really kind.

Good Luck

My children's doctor is a family care doctor and a D.O. She used to be a midwife. She does a mix of alternative and conventional treatments. She is okay with an alternative vaccine schedule or even not vaccinating. I'm not sure how good she is at educating her patients on choices available. I started using her with my second child so I knew a little more about options to request myself. It looks like you may be in the Colleyville area and she is in ARlington, near Arkansas and Matlock. Her name is Sharon Dennis.

Check out www.mothering.com for some info on alternative care and treatments. You may also like www.kellymom.com for breastfeeding and parenting tips, since you've been getting involved with Le Leche League.

Good Luck!

Hi C.,
I live in Flower Mound and use MDPediatrics. They are amazing! They have helped me with my daughter who is 14 moths in so many ways. I get all my questions answered and they have three locations: one in FM, Lewisville, and Coppell. You can find them at www.mdpedi.com. i use Dr. Smalley or Dr. Giselle Escalona. Both are wonderful. Giselle is loved by the toddlers b/c of her sweet demeanor but dr. smally is great about giving adivce about using meds or not using meds. Wise in home remedies as well as meds. he is very attentive and really
good at this job!

I love, and have sent many friends to, Dr. Karen Pilgrim-King in Arlington. She is on Pioneer Parkway at Davis. I have friends that drive from west FW and from North Richland HIlls to see her. You never feel rushed and she answers all your questions. Her staff is incredible, too.

I don't know where you live, but Dr. Deborah Bain in Frisco is amazing. She is open to an alternate schedule or not at all if that's what you're into. She's very open to homeopathic options mixed in with medical intervention. I love her and she is worth my drive!!!! www.healthykidspediatrics.com
