So my little 10 month old has had a scab under his nose since last week (I admit, I thought it was dried cookie and wiped it off at first, poor baby!). I remember taking him in for a rash before and it was impetigo. So I still have the Mupirocin cream. Unfortunately, I googled it and am feeling a little paranoid now (my husband told me to get off of the website and not worry! How can men turn off the worries like that?) Anyway, my question is, has anyone had a child with impetigo. Some of the postings on the website were about 20 year olds that get it every year since they were 3! I really don't remember my doctor telling me that . . . I am planning to call the Nurse hotline tomorrow, just to make sure I am applying the cream the right way and anything else I should be doing. He's not complaining about itching or earache or other infections - -generally very playful, happy and his usual self (but the crusty little scab thing on his nose is not very attractive . . . ) I would get some of your great advice out there. You moms have really been helpful to so many requests!

Btwn my 3 kids we have had every skin thing on earth. I got impetigo as a kid it seemed like every year. So those posts don't seem crazy to me. It is more serious as a parent than it was as a kid. Use a towel once, wash it, do not share w/ other family members and use the meds.

I agree with Jackie W. Impetigo is very contagious so be careful. Go to the doctor because an antibiotic may be in order. My son had it when he was 2 and it cleared up quickly with the antibiotics. It has not returned and he is now 5. Dont worry too much, this is easily treated. Good luck.

I had it when I was a child. It was all over my legs. I still have scars from it. But, I do not get it now. I am 41. The most important thing to do is to not spread it and to feed your sons immune system. His own body is his best defense against sickness and disease. Unfortunately, kids today are so full of junk, that their bodies don't have the energy to heal.

Have you heard of regeneration?

Good morning N., my kids never had it but i did, I was a preteen, it was on my face, it was pretty bad, and of course they didn't have the creams then like they do now. Impetigo is a type of skin virus, like ring worms, and usually itch like crazy, and then discomfort. I had it during one summer, and us kids in the neighborhood spent a weekend in Imperial Beach, and went to the beach the whole weekend, well the beach water dried mine all up, my mom had been using desetin, that kept it from spreading, but the beach dried it up. Like you I have never heard of it being a on going thing, I only had it once. If this becomes a frequent thing with your son his doctor will advise you want to do.Don't be to upset with your husband some men believe us mommy's worry to much as it is, and then we read something that freaks us a little and the worring increases. A friend of mine has 5 boys, her two youngest (4 and 5) got Impetigo and her Dr.along with a cream she said, gave them an antibotic. So definately consult with your Dr to be sure he may not need something more than a cream. Also she was advised that it is very contagious, so her two boys missed about 2 weeks of school. She also had to notify both boys teachers and daycare to let them know so they could also take proper precautions and disinfect. She said she kept their bath towels, hand towels, sheets, pillow cases, etc. changed and washed frequently to keep from spreading the germs. They had to take seperate baths, then before any of the other boys used the bath she also had to clean the tub. She kept counters, tables, light switches, remotes, etc wiped down with a disinfectant also, because it is picked up from touch very easily! And she washed their dishes seperate from the boys until they were over the imptetigo. She and the boys did alot of handwashing too! Her other 3 boys who are older did not get it and of course once the two little ones were all cleared up it has not returned thankfully! That is what I know from what she told me about her experience. Hopefully its not Impetigo, Its' always best to have the Dr look at it first, make a plan with your Dr. then go from there! Good luck!
