Hello All, We are traveling to Orlando in July and I'd like to see if I can get some great restaurant suggestions. Something that is a favorite of the locals, perhaps a little away from the touristy areas. I've checked on the Drive-In's Diners and Dives and not really come up with much. My hubby always does all the planning (sometimes a little too much) and I'd like to throw in a couple of ideas. I got a few great ideas a couple of years ago from the ladies here for our San Antonio trip, so I thought I'd try again.

Thanks!!

M.

So What Happened?

I believe we will be very near Universal Studios in a condo.

Thanks for the great suggestions!!

M., went down to Orlando a couple years ago & had the BEST Mexican food! It is a family chain only in Florida called Rocco's Tacos. Casual to Dressy, great night-life, entrees average $15 ($11-20).

Also, check out UrbanSpoon, & TripAdvisor.

Personally, hubby & I weren't able to visit a Cuban restaurant, but I hear there are some fantastic ones in FL, this one (family owned) comes highly rated:

Have a great trip! T. =-)

Just below Orlando is a steak house called Manny's Chop House it is considered one of Orlando's best restaurants (it is a bit of a drive from the usual tourist area but worth the trip).

Are you looking for a themed meal? We love going to Sleuth's Dinner Theater it is a lot of fun and they are kid friendly. There is also Medieval Times in Kissimmee with the live horse show (Arabian Nights unfortunately closed down). I know there is a Pirate Dinner show but I haven't been there yet.

There are also a lot of choices in Downtown Disney, there are some really good places there that are not all themed. There are also the regular chain restaurants all over.

For BBQ, check out 4Rivers in Winter Park, north of Orlando. There is Hamburger Mary's on Church Street in downtown Orlando. Go for lunch if bringing kids as they have drag shows at night and during Sunday brunch. But food is good. Lots of good restaurants on Park Avenue in Winter Park: Prato, Panullos, Café Bistro, Briar Patch. There is a place called Ravenous Pig in Orlando that is supposed to be outstanding, I haven't made it there yet, but have heard all good things. Have fun!

It depends on where you are staying? Westside of town, where the attractions are located? By Universal on Kirkman Rd is the Orlando Ale House. They have awesome bar food and nicely priced. You can find something for everyone. They're known for the "Zingers" boneless chicken strips with different sauces. From that they spun off different plates using the Zingers.
Tacos, Salads and Nachos. Just recommended it to a friend and she said,
Thanks so much, we went there twice. We'll be there in a few weeks and can't wait. If you can post your location, that would help.
Have fun!

Columbia Restaurant in Celebration (Kissimmee) is one of our favorite. The original is is Ybor City near Tampa and opened in 1905. Great food, great history!

We were in Orlando in April. My kids liked eating at Joes Crab Shack. Someone mentioned Downtown Disney, but you need to plan days in advance or eat at really odd times. We went for dinner one night and ended up just having sandwiches because there were no available tables unless you had reservations. I had tried to make reservations earlier in the day and could only get reservations for after 7:00 or 8:00. Even the sandwich shop was about a 45 minute wait and we skipped the ice cream shop because the line was insanely long! Someone mentioned Manny's. We didn't eat there, (looked too spendy for us) but there are several restaurants in that area. Mostly chains.

LOVE Orlando! Can't think of nay specific restaurant right now, but we always use restaurant.com and get some great deals. That is how I always find out of the way places and even save some money too! If you are going to use them, set up an account first, then you get some better deals on your purchases.
