I have a feeling like that in one leg almost all the time. Sometimes it's so intense I want to scream. Rubbing my ankle, foot and calf and stretching helps.

I have not been diagnosed by a doctor, but I believe I have rls or some thing like it. I have started walking a mile in the evening and have found it helps tremendously!

If you actually have restless leg syndrome, it's a medical issue caused possibly by poor circulation or something to do with the nervous system. There is medication for it. And the discomfort is all the time, not just now and then.

I have a restless feeling in my leg sometimes and think it's caused by my tensing my leg muscles when I'm anxious. Sometimes I'm able to make it go away by consciously tensing my muscles and then consciously relaxing them. I think walking during the day helps, too.

I have difficulties with anxiety and depression and the time I had this tense restless feeling in my legs the worst nothing helped. Because I was feeling especially anxious my doctor prescribed Ativan. After taking it for a few days my legs were OK again. It's not something I take routinely. I infrequently take an Ativan at night to help me relax.

OK, get in your car RIGHT NOW and head up to your nearest drug store or Wal-Mart. In the vitamin section there is a product called Restful Legs. It's made by Hyland. (At Wal-Mart its on the bottom shelf and at CVS it's with the pain relievers.) Its all natural ingredients, and it WORKS! My family suffers very badly from RLS and this is the ONLY non-perscription medication that WORKS! I promise you that you will not be disappointed. It is designed to disolve under your tongue. It doesn't taste bad at all. And it starts working within five minutes. I strongly urge you to give it a chance. It's only costs about $5.

I do not want to scare you ... honestly I do not just want to make you aware of something. My sister went in to her doctor to discuss her RLS (restless leg syndrome) and it turns out she has early onset, first stage parkinson's disease (I think that is the full name her doc gave it). Thankfully, it was at a stage that early intervention could help. For now, it is fairly supressed and she only has mild flare ups that can be aided with medication ... so, if you have not seen a doctor about it PLEASE DO!

Sometimes. Get up and walk around. I'm sure there are some things you can try (eating certain foods, etc), but I never have had it routinely enough to keep any sort of track of it. Once every few months, I'll get a twinge of it for a couple of minutes. Then I'm good.

I believe that putting a bar of soap under the foot of the bottom sheet in your bed is supposed to help, though. (or is that for leg cramps? ---hmmm cant remember now).

Hi J.

Does it occur often, does it make it difficult to fall asleep or interfere with your sleep. RLS/PLMD is often classified as a sleep disorder and can be treated with certain medications. If the doctor feels it necessary the may do some blood work to check if it could be related to iron/ferritin levels. If it is something you find to be very bothersome talk to your physician or contact a sleep disorder center. There is a very good center in Plano. The doctors name is Dr. Kakar. And as a previous poster commented asn unconventional method that may ease the discomfort is to place a bar of soap under your sheet ar your feet our legs.

Ihave a freind who used nutritional supplements and has no issues if RLS any longer. If you would like, I can let you talk with her on 3 way conference call. She had tried many over the counter meds prior.

Best wishes!

I don't know how often you have it. Mine is sporadic but I used to work for a doctor who was big into homeopathic health, not just western medicine. There was a time I had it several nights in a row and when I mentioned it to him he said it was an iron deficiancy. So I increased my supplements and made sure to eat plenty of iron rich foods and within a day or two I didn't have any more problems. In the meantime I did a lot of stretching before going to bed and would really tense up my legs, count to ten, and release. That always seemed to help. I saw someone mentioned magnesium. Maybe it's a general mineral deficiancy...I don't know. You might increase your supplements for a while and if it helps, you'll have a longer term solution.

I have RLS intermittently, but severely at times. I have found that if I take a Calcium and Magnesium supplement just before bedtime it helps tremendously.

I agree with the person that suggested you talk to a doctor as well, just to ensure there is not some underlying reason for the RLS.

Best of luck!

My husband has it. He sleeps ok, but he gets really restless if he's extra tired or not tired at all. He hates taking medications, so we haven't found a remedy yet, but I might look into getting more calcium.

Also, I've heard of the bar of soap under the bottom sheet at the end of the bed. It's an old wives tale based on the idea that if you subconsciously know that there is a bar of soap there, you won't kick it. We tried it; didn't work. Maybe try a cactus? :)

Hi--putting 2 bars of Dove soap under your bed's bottom sheet at night (see peoplespharmacy.com) has helped a lot of people--sounds crazy and takes a week or 2 but someone said it had to do with the ph in the soap neutralizing the nerves--worth a try!

I had RLS at night when I was pregnant. So, right before bed I would take 2 extra calcium pills. That really helped. So, try upping your calcium intake. Hopefully it wil help you too!
