Resale or Ebay

I have some higher end stuff (Me Too, Mimi and Maggie, tons of Gap) that I want to sell. It's all in almost brand new condition (lots of 12-18 and 18 months), and I am trying to figure out the best way to make the most money back.

There is a high end resale event nearby that I can do, but you have to pay a $15 entry fee and you only get 65%, unless you volunteer (I have a baby, so no volunteering for me!).

If I do ebay, I can start selling things now, but if I do resale, I'm thinking I should hold off till next year and do it? That way I'd save on entry-fees, etc.

Thoughts?

One last thing, I hate the hassle of selling things and usually just give things away on Freecyle. But I can't stand the thought of giving away dresses that I could easily get 10 dollars for --as long as it isn't going to cost me tons of time! My time is worth something to me.

Anyone do Thread-up?

What can I do next?

I looked into a resale shop once and brought it all home & set up an eBay account. Kids clothes go like lightning on eBay! BUT--the money will come in over time whereas if you do the event, you'll get it all out of the house & get the cash in that day/weekend. A matter of personal choice I think. I like eBay, especially for my son's little worn, pricey shoes, coats, etc.
Oh--not sure about the other brands you mentioned but Gap isn't that "high end" on eBay--so maybe resale is better for all that? Not sure. Good luck!

I have done both ebay and children's resale events. I seem to get more back, and can do it quicker with less hassle, on ebay. Especially the name brand clothing. I have had friends that have posted on Craigslist with clothing and have done well. The times that I have posted items on Craigslist, I just make sure my husband is home when someone comes over. I've never sold clothing on there though. The resale event is a hit or miss and usually my name brand clothing either doesn't sell or it goes on the 1/2 price day, but that is just one resale event and it is a hassle to get those ready. I would do ebay if I were you.

Craigslist would be an easier option. Post a picture of the item and then people contact you if they are interested. Plus it is local people that would pick up the items so you would not have to ship them.

I have sold on eBay, at the Parenthesis consignment sale, and to Once Upon a Child. I have also consigned at a pre-owned clothing boutique in Geneva called Good Cents. Ebay will make good money for you, but it's really time-consuming. And Once Upon a Child hardly gives you anything. I think the consignment stores/sales are the best bet. Just hang onto your items and they'll do all the work for you.

I second the recommendation to do Craigslist.
I bought a ton of used (nice) stuff for my baby before she was born, and it seemed to work nicely for everyone involved.
Pick your price, make sure to write a reasonable description (I was shocked how many ads there are for "stroller" with no information!), include a picture if you can !
You may want to bundle smaller things. (i.e. set of 5 lovely dresses for $50 or whatever)

I have never ever had any luck getting more money out of the name brand clothing. For some reason because you are not a retail store people figure they should be getting a better "deal". There are those out there that will say wow only $10.00 for such and such but far and few between do.
I don't like e-bay anymore because of all the stupid fees they have now decided to pack on-between shipping the item and providing the shipping accessories sometimes its just not worth it but it depends on what you got. Craiglist is a better alternative since there isn't a fee involved in posting but it is so over-saturated with scammers I would have to warn you to please be careful. I sold a cell phone on there and the guy paid me via paypal it was very simple and I didn't have to meet him or anything so it worked out great!
Another alternative which I am not sure if they have these in your area but there is a "group" that you can join called Mothers of Multiples and usually twice a year they have a HUGE and I mean a HUGE selection of baby items and such and if you are a member you get access into the club or group yard sale before it opens to the public. I don't think you have to have twins in order to be a member and I'm not quite sure what the fees are involved or what percentage that is something you migh have to check into. I am not currently a member but I should be-lol!

try craigslist. You can group things together how you want, and get money quick and fast. Selling things can get to be a hassle, but with craigslist you are making ALL your money. you aren't paying fees to the shop, and you aren't paying fees to ebay.

Depending on what you all have, and what the seasons are, you can even just group according to the season and size, and just sell it as large lots of clothes. I have seen people pay the 100-200 that people ask for large amounts of clothes, becasue they can do all their "shopping" for that age at one time and are done with it.

I would do the resale if you hate the hassle of selling things. I have never sold anything on ebay but it seems like a huge pain. What about a regular resale shop? If you have more "upscale" items they should take them (although I have been surprised at what they do take vs what they don't) and you won't have to pay $15. But do it soon b/c they know what season it is from so even if it is new and in great condition they won't take it if it is outdated.

Ebay sounds like it would be easy but if your time is important to you, Ebay is not for you. There is alot more involved then just listing a few things. The resale event is not a bad thing either, I have done it as well. It is less work than Ebay, but work none the less. I would agree with the other poster and recommend craigslist. It seems this would be the least amount of work for you. Too bad you dont have a friend or something that could use that size. I would always buy hand me downs from friends who I knew kept their things in really good condition. Hope this helps.
