So What Happened?

I didn't realize they had a circus circus there. We went to the one in Vegas a few yrs back and it was great for kids. Is lake Taho out? will it be too cold? I am an outdoors type and like to hike.

I live near Reno:) Your best bets are Circus Circus they have a good arcade and fun circus acts or the family fun center at the Grand Sierra is great. Also Reno Indoor Paintball is awesome.

Fleishman's planetarium is good as well. It's likely to be cold and wet so I am trying to give you fun indoor stuff to do.

We did a hot air balloon ride out of Reno. It was absolutely spectacular...the scenery is so gorgeous. We also drove up to Lake Tahoe and looked around (we didn't stay long, we were on a tight timeline for that). If you have never seen the lake, it is well worth going up there!

However, just FYI, the high altitude affected me significantly (and I was in my early 20's, good shape). All I wanted to do was sleep sleep sleep!

if your planning on staying in a hotel and want a swimming pool, the atlantis (at the end of the strip) and the nugget (quite a ways from the strip) have their own indoor pools. the silver legacy, el dorado and circus circus all share one. the peppermill has an outdoor one only. reno has all kinds of cool things to do. there is the biggest bowling alley in the world, all kinds of museums, a planetarium, and of course the circus at circus circus. just google or do a search on reno and you will find plenty of things to keep you busy!! virginia city is close by and also fun!!

We travelled through Reno about 4-5 years ago. We are not smokers and when you enter many hotels, the casino was in front of the door and there were clouds of smoke everywhere (unlike Vegas). It also had many, many seniors over 80. The people on average looked poor and kind of toughened, dressed poor (sleeveless t-shirts for the men, mumus for the women,, and had cigarettes hanging out of the side of their mouths. (shudder) I am also not a gambler but I don't have any judgments about either. In fairness, we didn't enter the bigger hotels as we were just passing through, curious about it, and just wanted to have a nice lunch.
