I was wondering if anyone has any tips on easing morning sickness, that lasts all day long. I haven’t actually thrown up yet, but I am nauseous ALL day long. This is my second child and only felt ill about 3 times with my first. I am only 6 weeks along in my pregnancy.

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for the advice. The past few weeks have been difficult; especially chasing a toddler and working, while you feel nauseous. The lemon in the water worked wonders! I was so surprised it worked so well. It was difficult for me to even drink anything before. I still feel sick, but I’m able to function now. I am going to buy some crystallized ginger tomorrow and see if that works. Thanks again for the advice!!!

I was just like you when I had my daughter. My son I felt great and my daughter I was nauseous from the minute I woke up until I went to bed. As strange as it sounds eating helped me. My husband would look at me and say I thought you were nauseous when I was looking for something to munch on LOL. I would put saltine crackers by my nightstand and before my feet hit the floor I would have a few crackers. It did help. An old wives tale in my family is that pregnancy with girls take everything out of you. It was true for me. Maybe it will be the same for you. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds counter intuitive, but you have to eat. An empty stomach is the worst for morning (all day) sickness. Find foods you can eat, even if it's just dry bread or saltines. I could eat apples, cucumbers, white bread or challah, and occasionally a piece of bland pasteurized cheese like cheddar. Doesn't matter what, try to get something very bland down. And banish all food smells -- my poor husband had to eat his food in another room if he wanted anything other than white bread and an apple. Good luck!

Hi B.,
With 4 children, I got away without moring sickness only once.

With my first, it wasn't so bad, just a few ill episodes, but was nauseaus all night long - working night shift. Snacking on crackers and such helped, and sipping water.

With my third, I craved fruits and salads, which helped greatly with nausea. At work, I snacked all day long; hard candies, lemon drops worked most days, ginger snaps, saltines, peanut butter crackers, and lots of sipping of apple juice (it worked best).

With my last, it was the worst. I couldn't find anything to help. When vomiting started, it didn't stop until I went to the hospital (3 days later) for dehydration for 3 days. They gave me meds, Zofran, that helped wonderfully and I was able to eat and drink. Unfortunately, they wouldn't give me a script for it at home, and what they did send me home with didn't work. I was back again 4 days later. This time they gave me a script for it.

After my second visit, I found that ice chips/cubes worked wonders. I would buy a big bag of ice to keep in my outside freezer and fill up a large to-go soup container about 3-4 times a day - a bag would last me about 4 days. ( I also ate alot of chinese food, we have a buffet in town, and ordered take out from the restaraunt, so the soup containers were plentiful, they had lids and held my ice) I took these cups/bowls everywhere with me, even to work.

Hope you find something that helps, I remember too vividly how bad it can get.

Crackers and No to morning sickness tea definitely helps to take nausea away. The tea has a very mild taste. I did not have to add anything in it (sugar, cream). Just be sure not to steep it too long as it can get quite strong... unless, you like really strong tea. I would recommend giving this tea a try.

Hi B.-

I was the same way with my daughter. I found sucking on ginger- the crystalized kind-worked as did (don't laugh) sniffing lemon slices. A few times I ate the lemon slices and that helped. I wouldn't do that too often because of the citric acid. Saltines also helped a lot!
Good luck and feel better soon!

I drank a lot of water with a slice of lemon in it. And ate many saltines. That is really all that worked for me. I never threw up, but was quite nauseous.
