I have a 3 year old who completely potty trained over 7 months ago. Very few accidents in 7 months including only 1 or 2 overnight! In the last 2 days she has had 5 accidents, including a number 2! nothing in her life has changed so what is up? Worried and irritated! Please advise. Thx
Maybe she is a little tired or getting a cold or stomach bug. It doesn't take that much for a young kid to be thrown off. My son got a horrible cold and pink eye 2 weeks into potty training and I just put him back in pull ups for a week. My mom says my sister would wet the bed once or twice a year until 2nd grade.
Kids do this.
They are kids.
No kid, is accident proof. No kid, even if being potty trained, will be accident proof.
No kid, is 100% perfect about it everyday.
Childhood.
My daughter, even at 7 years old, had accidents.
In Preschool too.
She was potty trained at 2 years old. By HER readiness.
Still, accidents happen.
Also, kids this age 'think' they can hold it longer than they actually can.
ALSO, night time dryness, is not something that is biologically attained, until even 7 years old. Normal and per Pediatricians.
Night time dryness, is a whole separate process, than day time pottying.
It is about the biological maturity and development of the organs. Not the child's age.
Your child is normal.
Put it this way, my Daughter's Preschool, Kindergarten AND 1st Grade Teachers, ALL said, that kids these ages have accidents. Thus, in these grade levels, they ask the parent to bring extra clothing to keep at school. Just in case. Even the Teachers do not make a big deal of it.
I know, I asked them.
And I asked them, because, my Daughter at these ages, had accidents.
Maybe talk with the pediatrician - could she have a bladder or urinary tract infection?
We recently went through this with our three year old. We actually had to start all over again - like she was never potty trained at all! It was difficult for me to wrap my head around that, especially since I thought I was done. My daughter started refusing to wear underwear. We were really back to square one. We eventually resorted to a sticker chart to track her progress. For her, it was an attention seeking thing - going through a phase...she has an older sibling who is learning to do all sorts of new things, like reading and tying her own shoes. I think our 3 year old was just needing some extra attention. It's frustrating for the parent because you KNOW they can do it on their own already. Really noticing and making a big deal out of when they succeed helps a lot. Try to keep positive! I've been there...just take it day by day, if you can. Hang in there. She'll get back to where she once was soon. Accentuate the positive and make it fun. I even do some goofy dance when she remembers to go to the bathroom! I feel silly, but she LOVES it - and it gets results. Good luck!
You may want to have her tummy x-rayed. My daughter was just like this. She was fully potty trained, and had a bowel mvt. almost every day. But started having accidents. So after the x-ray we found out that her tummy was full of poop. And so all the pressure was squeezing against her bladder and making her have accidents. Put her on some miralax to clean her out. She just must have not been getting it all out when she would go. Good luck!
Our almost 3yo just did this after a year of being potty trained. Not sure why. We just told her it was not okay. I don't know if it was related or not, but we recently got her bigger panties, and she hasn't done it since. Not sure she'll appreciate the big caboose later in life, but you do what you have to do. :) GL!

From my experience working with kids, they will sometimes go through phases of testing their own limits and end up having accidents. Unless there is a medical issue, (per DVMMOMs suggestion) kids go through phases.
A couple things that can help:
If you see them doing the wiggle and dance that go with needing to go, don't ask them to go, tell them that it's time for a bathroom break. Sometimes, too, kids don't want to 'miss out', keep that in mind and walk with them to the bathroom. Reassure her that you'll wait to come back to whatever it is that you were doing together. If this isn't the case, just send her every so often, before she can have an accident. You'll be interrupting a habit that wasn't working for her in the first place.:)
I would say sometimes kids get distrated and have accidents. You said,that nothing has changed? I would not scream at her. I would calmly tell her do you want to be in a diaper again? Tell her that if she does not go on the potty may be she wants to wear diapers again? I told that to my son and it really seemed to hit home. It may be hard but do not yell at her. Talk to her and ask her what is going on? Ask her if something is bothering her? Stick int there and you will get her back on course.
