Referrals for Home Birth Midwife - Eastern MA

Hi moms! I'm pregnant with my second child and am looking for a home-birth midwife in the Cambridge, MA area. We're particularly interested in personal referals. Thanks so much. (note: we already know about the Cambridge midwives/birth center & are connected with them through our first child. Would like to stay home with the second :)

What can I do next?

Hi C.,

I am a stay at home mom with 4 children. The first two I delivered in the hospital, the last two at home with midwife Nancy Wainer from Needham. She was great, we had a wonderful experience both times. She is located at 10 Great Plain Terrace, Needham, Ma 02492. Her number is ###-###-####. I'm not sure if she has a web site, but you could check under Birth Day Midwifery Services. I have to run, my 4 year old is playing with our 2 bunnies. Email back if you have more questions.

I'm a student midwife and I have many referrals I could give you. Email me off-list and I'd love to hear more about you and what you're looking for and I can (hopefully) find you a good match!

Best wishes for this birth!

Hi there:

Congratulations on your second child! My doula, Erin Sweeney, works with a midwife who performs homebirths. Check out her website at: http://www.newlifemidwifery.com/index.html.
Kelley Faulkner is willing to travel just about anywhere in MA to help women have a wonderful birth experience at home. I hear she is fantastic.

Good luck!

Hi C.,

I used the Birthplace at Wellesley for our first son's birth, but when they closed we opted for a home birth. We used Nancy Wainer, CPM. That was in 2006 with son #2. Nancy also has two student midwives who work with her for a couple years (so they cycle out and someone new starts). She and her students were WONDERFUL! Also, I highly recommend Nancy's backup, Heather Laier. Heather actually delivered my second son (Nancy was in Canada at a wedding) and brought her own backup (Dawn) as well as Nancy's two students. Now, you might think 4 midwives in a room would be crowded, but when my mom arrived while I was in labor, she had no idea anyone was even in the room with me because it was all so quiet. I really liked Nancy's approach, and you can learn a lot more and contact her through her website: www.birthdaymidwifery.com

I loved my home birth experience (especially the not driving while in labor part!). Feel free to contact me offline if you'd like to go into detail about Nancy, the process & her philosophies, etc. FYI, I still use Women's Health Assoc. (from the original birth center) for my OB-GYN care and did use them until the end of my 3rd trimester when I finally found Nancy. I'll be using her again for the birth of our third child in a couple years if all goes according to plan.

Good luck! N. in Bedford
