I am looking for someone in the DFW area or maybe southern Oklahoma that will perform a water birth. I have called a few midwives in the area and nobody seems to know who does them around here. I am in Lewisville, but like I said, I am willing to travel.

Thank you all SO much! I don't know how I missed all of these wonderful places when I was researching. I am now talking with a few of the midwives to see which one suits me best. I feel very confident in all of your recomendations.
Thanks again!

Inanna birthing center. You can have a water birth at their birthing center or rent the birthing tub and have a home birth. I am due in August and have been with them since my sixth month of pregnancy. Since you live in Lewisville, the drive would not be tood bad because the birthing center is in Lewisville.

Yes, she is a midwife (Debbie Kranjak) in the Little Elm area. When I found out i was pregnant she tried to convince me to go that route... with it being my first I wanted a little more traditional method. If you are interested email me and I will get her phone number for you.

I am pretty sure the Allen birthing center does them. Yep, just googled it--they do! Here's the site
http://allenbirthingcenter.com/waterbirth.htm. Good luck. I really wanted to do one but it wouldn't be covered under my insurance and I ended up having to have an emergency c-section with mine 4 1/2 weeks early because I am rh negative and got iso-immunized (no one knows how). Anyhow, my son is doing great now, but I wish you the best of luck in your water birth. I have watched videos and it looks so peaceful!

Dear S., how exciting that you are looking for a midwife for water birth! I have a WONDERFUL midwife, her name is Bonnie Kitchen. Her website is http://www.maternityservices.com/. Her phone number is ###-###-####. She is located in Hurst, and she is worth the drive. I cannot begin to tell you how awesome she is. We went to her from the very first visit once I found out I was pregnant, and I initially did not even intend on having a home birth. I could go on about her forever, but I want to point out while I did not have a water birth, I did have the pool in my home (our bathtub would have been too small) and I labored in water for quite a while (and it was HEAVEN). For different reasons I ended up not giving birth in water, but that is a different story. Bonnie is actually an instructor for midwife students (I forget her official title), so she is very experienced. She is taking an immense amount of time at each visit, and we will go to her again in a heartbeat next time. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me. Good luck! All the best, M.

I'm with Inanna birthing center in Denton right now (I'm due in August) and they do water births and are wonderful! What's cool about them, too, is that my insurance (BCBS) covers them since they are certified nurse midwives. They do waterbirths, homebirths... any kind of birth you want and are also close to a hospital with physician back-up if it's necessary. here's their website... http://www.inannabirth.com/index.html

Hi S.,
The Allen Birthing Center (http://allenbirthingcenter.com/)does water birthing. They are Certified Nurse Midwives and very professional, and if you are looking for a more personalized pregnancy experience than you might get with a traditional OB, this is the place. I had my daughter there and the whole experience was great - I highly recommend them.

below is some info about a mid wife clinic that delivered my babies - they practice out of harris methodist hospital down town but i am almost sure they do water births because i was interested in it and i know they have jacuzzi's in all the birthing rooms - anyway you can google "nancy jo reedy" - she is the head certified nurse midwife who started the program - you could call them and ask them about water births - they are ALL ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - you can tell them you were referred by P. taylor but my son is almost 4 and my daughter is 11 so don't know if they will still remember me - anyway hope this helps :-)

The only dr in the area who does WB is Dr Cummings @ Denton Presbyterian. He is incredible. I hate drs but he is the closest thing to a midwife but with the confidence and skill of a relaxed informed dr. His mum and grandma were midwives so he looks @ birth completely differently then most drs. I would really suggest meeting with him even if u want to have a midwife he usually agrees to be your back up dr just in case. he's the head ob @ Denton pres so there's no "well its hospital policy u tell him what u want 4 your birth and he usually has no problem with it.

Midwives
Jean Sala in Denton excellent sole practitioner with a birth center ###-###-####

Ann Crowell Hurst ###-###-#### about 4 midwives w birth center. She has 20 yrs experience. She's good a little rough natured and disorganized

Susan Akins with Women's Health Alliance is an excellent certified
nurse midwife. She works out of Baylor Dallas . ###-###-####

Hope this helps. I had a home birth which was a VBAC to a 10lb 3oz baby after a terrible op presented first baby who was 9lb 6oz. and a dr who said i would never be able to deliver my big babies vaginally.

I also have a group of midwives that i would highly NOT recommend if u want there details i will email them to u personally

Good Luck

Hi S.,
I delivered my daughter in November at the Birth and Women's Center in Dallas. It's on Swiss Avenue, a block away from Baylor Dallas. There are two CNM's there, Cherie and Carol. I had Cherie for my delivery. It was wonderful, I LOVE them and the birth center. Here is the website: http://www.birthcenter.net/default.asp
They have pictures/tours on there of the birth center and the bedroom to deliver in, as well as the tub used for water birth.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions for me or anything you can email me!
J.

S.,

Allen Birthing Center is accredited. They have 2 birth tubs. If you live within 20 miles of the center, they will come to your house for a home birth. You can rent a tub in your home and they will help set that up.

Good luck.

I did a water birth at Nativiti birth center in the Woodlands (off I-45 just North of Houston) with Melanie Dossey. I had both of my kids there and they are just fabulous!

The student midwife who assisted with my 1st birth 7 years ago is here in the DFW area with a hospital midwives group. I know her third child was a water birth at home. I don't know if they do water births, but maybe she can help you find someone. Her name is Candis Pannell.

My midwife is the best! She attended all three of my children's births at my home. My births were all peaceful and perfect. I never had any tears with any of them- which I definitely credit to her coaching and skill. She is a certified nurse-midwife and I know she has done water births in the past. Let me know if you want her info.
