Any ideas on how to deter and keep a red squirmy out of our shed. We have a large backyard shed that a red squirrel has made his home. He stores tons of black walnuts from a tree in our yard and has chewed several items in the shed. Any suggestions / solutions would be appreciated.

buy or borrow a small Havahart animal trap - bait it and put near where the red squirrel enters his nut stash. When you have trapped him - drive to some woods on the other side of your town and let hem go. Come back and re-set the trap - there may be other red squirrels helping him - they ususally live in small colonies and try to invade the area of a large colony of grey squirrels. We had a group of red squirrels getting into our garage attic and then under the eves of one of our bedrooms - it took several months - but we re-located all of them. One has been back in out yard this year - but the greys give him a lot of grief! Good luck ! Keep working at it. They can destroy your property if you let them!

Have you tried red pepper or cyan pepper. They don't like it.

I've heard of people putting radios with loud music in attics to get rid of squirrels. Maybe it'll work in the shed?

We tried poison, glue traps and have-a-heart traps with minimal success. What finally worked for us were sonic pest repellers. You plug them into a wall outlet and they emit a super sonic noise that deters the squirrels. We had the little buggers in our attic for years. We have the sonic things in every bathroom, bedroom, and the attic. Since we plugged these things in, they haven't been back.

Best of luck to you!

Put the black walnuts in a basket and use them for Thanksgiving and Xmas hehehe
If I could not shoot the squirrel I would probably try a have-a-heart trap and.bait it with sunflower seeds.
Would use poison as a last resort.
Red squirrels are the worst to get in a house , barn, garage or shed. They are very clever and persistent and terribly destructive.
Here, in the country, we shoot them with a 22. And before anyone dumps on me, that is simply how things are done up here in Maine.
The trap is not wicked expensive, seems to work fairly well...I do prefer the trap to the shooting.
Worse comes to worse you could call one of those exterminator dudes and pay him a hundred dollars to trap the critter.
Best wishes and God bless

Try putting a bunch of new dryer sheets in there, it is supposed to keep pest and rodents away, they don't like the smell.
