Recommendations for Dishwasher Under $350 - Troutdale,OR

I am looking for a dishwasher that is under $350 or so, and that works well. I need it to have an hour or less run time, and I need it built in, but I don't need stainless. Something that holds tall things on one rack is good. Also, I don't want to have scrub the dishes before I put them in, a rinse is ok, but I am against washing dishes to rewash them in the dishwasher.

Thanks so much for your help! I have been reading reviews for almost 2 weeks and I am so ready to give up!

What can I do next?

There are 18 dishwashers on the Lowe's website under $350. Some of them mention a 'quick wash' setting, but not actual times involved.

I have read that many new dishwashers take longer to wash because of the water and energy efficiency. They have to do more with less, so it takes more time to get the dishes clean.

You will probably want a model with a grinder. Also called "hard food disposal". These are louder than other types, but they also make it so you don't have to clean out food gunk all the time.

Your $350 dishwasher, new, will not be of good enough quality to suit your needs. Look for a better quality dishwasher that is used (sometimes people sell perfectly good high-end appliances when they're remodeling the kitchen). We had an inexpensive dishwasher (Frigidaire, about $350) from Lowe's and it was horrible. Of course it was fine at first but after a few months, it just didn't clean the dishes. At the end, it made them dirtier than when we put them in, and we had to pre-scrub everything.

A few months ago, we got a $900 Kitchen Aid dishwasher on sale for $600 and it's like night and day. We just load up the dishes, and they come out sparkling clean.

Dishwashers are one of those things where you get what you pay for - I'd look to increase your budget or look for something used.

we all want that.
:)
you gotta pick. if you can't afford a fast, strong, efficient one, you pay less and pre-scrub your dishes. if you want one with a good strong scrubber AND that's fast, you're gonna have to fork over the bucks (or find a good used one.)
we paid around $500 for our middle-of-the-road kitchen aide. it's good, gets the dishes nice and clean, and for the first time in years i don't have to pre-scrub (which didn't faze me much because it had become the status quo. you can get used to anything.) it's also very quiet. but it's smaller than the old less-efficient one, and it takes a really long time to cycle through. i start it when i go to bed.
good luck!

$350 is not a lot for a dishwasher. You'll be hard pressed to find one for that price, even if you had NO *requirements* about what it could do (under an hour run time, etc).

Maybe wash in the sink a little longer and save a little more $ and you will have better luck finding choices.

Under $350 just doesn't sound very reasonable, to me.

We've never spent that much on a dishwasher and got them at Lowes and Sears. I do think that Sears has better quality. If you had a bigger budget then I'd say go for the top of the lines but medium to lower styles will serve you well.

As for the dishes and having to do them before loading them that is all about your water temp. No dishwasher does a good job with luke warm water. If it's the hottest your hot water heater can make then they'll come out cleaner. How a person loads it will also have a huge impact on how it cleans. My husband will put pans on top of dishes then be upset with the pan isn't clean and the outside of the dishes are nasty from the pan.

If you do decide to increase your budget get a dishwasher with a built in water heater. They are closer to $500 though. But to me it's worth the extra cost because they just do better work.

I hate when we get a dishwasher and the racks rust out. That's an issue with the less expensive ones. The last dishwasher we bought had ceramic cover on the racks and it was still going great when we sold the house and moved.

A dishwasher that has a built in disposal is great too. I love that but it can still get clogged if chunks of food are left on the dishes.

Good luck! You might want to bide your time too, wait for an excellent sale and get a great dishwasher. They usually have big sales on appliances on national holidays.

I don't think you;re gonna find one for $350... unless Dishwashers are cheaper in Oregon than they are in Ca.

Mine crapped out earlier this year and I didn't want to spend much on a nice new one because I have dreams to re-do my whole entire kitchen in a couple years (and my current situation requires an 'portable" dishwasher, which is a frustration in itself).

So I went to Craigslist... found a used one for $25 bucks just blocks from my house. easy peasy. It's not much better than the old one but it works. maybe you can find a pretty good one that's barely used for $350 or less. Plus the previous owner can tell you exactly what is good and bad about it, in a more person-to-person way than a salesman can.

The only way I can imagine you getting a dishwasher at that price would be buying something used and hope it has a few years of life left.

I've never seen a dishwasher for $350, especially with features you describe.

Check out Sears and other store scratch and dent stock as well.

I would go in person to the store with the measurements of the dishwasher you have now. We have one that is quieter (Bosch) but the interior is smaller than our old noisier Kenmore. Some days we really miss the old, but bigger, machine. We finally replaced it when we couldn't get it repaired.

Friend said she got the best appliance deals local to her at HH Gregg. We got our dishwasher from Sears + installation.

You might also look at a ReStore or similar. You can get a lot of appliances there, and it benefits Habitat for Humanity. We also got our washing machine at the Sears Outlet for less $ due to a cosmetic ding.
