Hi, my 3-year-old daughter develop a what looks like rashes/red bumps on the palms of her hands. Yep, only in the palms, and they do not appear to be bothersome to her. She has no fever or other cold symptoms so her doctors said it's definitely not hand foot and mouth disease. We have not tried anything (detergents, hand soaps....etc) so it's really puzzling. Anyone has similar experience?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the responses.
So the dermatologist said it's eczema flare up due to our extreme cold (negative temperatures a few weeks ago) and maybe some irritants from contacts as well.
well, i hope this is it and the mystery solved! Appreciate all!

That is one of my allergy symptoms when I eat foods or take medicines I am allergic to. Any new foods or medicines?

Is she holding anything in her hands a lot? Grabbing anything that requires her hands to be around something? Does she wear mittens that perhaps are itchy on the inside? Just some thoughts. It also occurred to me when another reader wrote I remembered I used to work at a preschool and they used a very long rope and each child had to stand in line behind eachother. It was a real rope, not plastic.
I also had an experience with my son but he really hurt, where I saw that he had a lot of bumps and they turned out to be splinters from the rope surrounding our park district pool. I think the doctor had to remove about thirty seven splinters.

J.,

HI. I get little red bumps on my palm only and my doctor told me it was dyhydrous excema (probably not spelled right). The doctor said just to make sure that I kept my hands well hydrated (lotion and don't wash them too much). I don't if this is case for your daughter. What works for me is a thicker lotion at night, and since i hate that oily feeling, the lotions that absorb quickly during the day.

Dear J., my nephew had that when he was about 2 years old. It was a long time ago but I remember my sister in law said that their Doctor said it was a allergy to the wood chips at the park she took him to. The MD gave her some onitment to put on it and is helped alot. Could it be an allergy from something like that? Doe she go to preschool? If so maybe something she picks up in school. Good Luck.

if she gets cranky at all, doesn't eat as well etc, take her to the ped again. If it's hand/foot/mouth it's very contagious.

my dd never has fever w/ it either

Hi J.,
When I was younger I would get welts/rashes on my palms only. It was an allergic reaction to pets I think. But it wouldn't happen right away....sometimes it was hours later. Even if my hands were washed. It was weird! So maybe it's some kind of allergic reaction to something.

my daughter had hand foot and mouth on her hands and no fever etc. It went away after a week or so. She wasn't disturbed by it at all. It was like little bubbles or warts on her hands.

Did your daughter have strep throat by any chance???
This is a side symptom of strep throat, the red rashes inside hands.

I'd take her to a dermatologist - it might be some type of excema.
