Rash from Drooling

My son will be six months next week and has been teething since he was four months. It has gotten worse and he is drooling all the time. He now wears a permanent bib so I don't have to constantly change his clothes due to all the drool. Last week, he started getting a rash around his mouth and chin and it is now getting worse. What can I put on his face that will help relieve and soothe him? It is now so red and patchy that I'm sure it must hurt or irritate him. His pediatrician said to put vasoline or aquaphor but I was wondering what other mothers have experimented with and have proven to work.

I wouldn't use vaseline. It's a petrolatum (petroleum... gas?) product and is very bad for the skin and the system. There is something called UNpetroleum jelly which is sold in health food stores (not GNC or that kind, but whole foods) and you could use that instead.

Aquaphor.
or, you can try A&D diaper ointment. That's good for anything.

My son had that same problem and has continued to have it from time to time. We use Aquaphor and it usually clears it right up after only 1 or 2 applications - it's amazing.

Vaseline worked the best for me. Keeps moisture out and doesn't hurt when put on.

C., I so understand. My son also experienced drool rash, and being the natural MAMA that I am...I decided to use my MOTHERLOVE NIPPLE CREAM. This amazing product was a lifesaver! It literally healed his drool rash within 24 hours and the great thing about the NIPPLE CREAM is that it is 100% natural so it is not harmful if your baby ingests it.

Here's the website for MOTHERLOVE:

I bought my NIPPLE CREAM at WHOLE FOODS and THE PUMP STATION, but to find a store close to you go to:

http://www.motherlove.com/storelocator.php

Even, the GREEN CRADLE in Sherman Oaks sells it.

Hope this helps!

With love,

Aquaphor is great, but ShiKai Borage Dry Skin therapy lotion-Children's Formula was our miracle lotion for all over face and body with my son's severe eczema. Everyone I've ever told to use it loves it. You can find it at Henry's market or order it online at ShiKai.com
