Baby Drooling; Need Skin Care Help

I have an 8 month old daughter who is a serious drooler. The problem is the skin around her mouth is so dry it is turning red and raw. Please help!

What can I do next?

My 4 month old drools a lot, too. Her neck usually gets red from being wet all the time (despite my best efforts at keeping it dry). We use Desitin Clear. It seems to work pretty good.

Dear K.,
I know this sounds terribly old fashioned, but my son who is 20 yr. old now did the same thing and I ended up using Carmex right around his mouth. It was the only thing that would stop the dryness that was constantly around his mouth. Sometimes it would cause a rash down around his neck and I even found that it was safe to use around his neck. Only a very, very thin layer is needed. That is what I used I don't know how others feel about it. It was the only help I had and it worked miracles for me. His little face was totally chapped in the winter and even in the summer he was almost raw from the slobbering. Hope this helps.

You can either rub vaseline on her skin lightly or what works GREAT is Aquafor. It works for so many things, rashes, dry skin, etc and it is safe for baby....

Hey K., I am a pharmacist but have my own business with Arbonne. I would not put Vaseline on your baby's mouth. It is a petroleum product (derived from crude oil). Most people don't know that Vaseline and "Baby Oil" and mineral oil are crude oil derivatives. I have a pure, safe and beneficial line of products designed for babies called ABC Arbonne Baby Care. The Diaper Creme would be good to dab around your daughter's mouth. I recommend my ABC products and also recommend my Intelligence Conditioning Oil. It has grape seed oil and I use it at night on my lips. No chapping. Let me know if you'd like more advice. You can contact me at ____@____.com or call me at ###-###-####. Sincerely, T. Bennett

My little boy used to do that at around the same age. He had more problems with excema on his back and buttocks. Try some EUcerin cream. It is very thick and it is a great moisturizer. Hope this helps

Babies have very acidic saliva while their teething (body's natural defense with open spaces in the gums) Eucerin can be bought in a tub from drug stores and it will work overnight. Doctors usually recommend it for exzcema, but I've used it for diaper rash, hives, etc... this stuff feels like crisco, and you want to make sure the skin is dry before you apply it, that's when it works best. good luck!

butt paste! I know it sounds weird but it does a lot for chapped lips and chapped skin.

Gerber makes a moisture stick that is a little easier to use than a cream like aquaphore, that is a little messy. you can also avoid using soap on her face at bath time, that can make the chapping worse.

Try Vasaline or Boudreaux's Baby Kisses...both worked great fro us.

Our daughter would get a rash around her mouth and chin area when she was little like yours is. I think you'll find (as did we) thath the only thing a pediatrician, pa, or ped. nurse will tell you is o.k. to apply to a young child like that is a thin layer of vaseline, which you can reapply fairly regularly. It works on their sensitive skin, although the results appear to be slow-coming, as the drooling is on -going. Don't look for or expect overnight massive improvement. Just know that it is gradually working, and that the irritation for her will be well-soothed so that it isn't so painful as it probably is right now. Also, when you blot/wipe that area up from slobber, try using Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes, rather than a dry cloth or kleenex tissue.

Try Aquaphor. A little goes a long way, and it really works!
