My 8 month old has these roundish, bright red, raised blotches on his back, back of head, front and back neck. (It's not ring worm, by the way, that much I know, but that's it....what is it? and what can I use safely to relieve any possible itching?) It just popped up this evening....Food allergies? It's not on the face or diaper area.... Heat? Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

I would probably say that is heat rash, and its popping up where he is resting and therefore sweating the most. My neighbor has a baby boy the same age and he has it on the back of his neck, its so hot and since he doesnt move around too much on his own he gets the little bumps.
I might try the Baby Aveeno lotion. I used that with my son when he was a baby and it worked really well.

without seeing the rash, it's hard to say what it could be. Have you changed detergent lately? could be a reaction to that. Maybe he has a new allergy... maybe it's heat rash... maybe he has an infection of some sort... I would google rashes and see what you can match it up with.

my son had this virus, i forgot the name, they described it almost like a christmas tree pattern on his back, with oval shaped blotches on the "t shirt" area, with one bigger splotch being the original one. if this sounds like it, maybe visit the doc

Did your son get shots lately? Could be that.
Try some aloe vera to help him.
Could also be heat rash!! My kids got it a lot as babies. For that, just try your best to keep him cool.

For an 8 month old, you should call and ask your doctor. Could be as simple as heat or there was a virus and it's expelling. A quick phone call should tell you if it's something that should be checked into further.

If he does not have a fever then it is probably prickly heat or an allergy to something. the Dr. can give you a list to watch for and how to start that check. And use a no perfumed soap/lotion/and bath soaps--natural is really good for this. I have used Dreft for years and Dove soap for sensitive skins and there are many lotions our there-Read the labels to watch for perfumes/paba (my daughter"s biggest problem-and to make it worse it is in just about everything) But use in small doses on the skin and it will probably work. When we were little we had baby lotion for sunscreen and our family would "oil" us up every 15 minutes-must have worked I didn't burn and didn't break out-neither did my kids when they were little.

Dear Sylvia A.

The safest and best product on the market is Egyptian Magic. It can do miracles. You will find it so amazing, you will start using it on yourself.

They also have a product called Sulfa*Derm that has also some great affects on the skin.

I purchase it at www.smhomeopathic.com This is a famous 70 year old pharmacy in California that handles everything.

Good Luck

Kim

I also thought it sounded like heat rash. You can probably use a half percent cortizone cream but you need to get it at a pharmacy like CVS or Walgreens. Most of them will have it...ask a pharmacist if you can't find it. I probably would call your doctor though and make sure if it persists.

My daughter got a rash on back over night and we took her to dr. He said it was an interovirus, which is very common with little ones. Sometimes it is accompanied with fever and diarreah.
