By how much do you generally increase your nanny's hourly wage when you give her a raise?

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,
C.

I just gave my sitter a $1/hr raise....

That is more than I have gotten in the past year and a half at my new job - I have gotten a big fat NOTHING! LOL ~ The economy stinks so I am not complaining, but my husband and I just got to thinking that I feel really unappreciated because I haven't gotten a raise, and we don't want her to feel that way because we REALLY like her and she does a great job. So I guess it just depends on how much you like her and appreciate what she does!

my former employers raised my weekly salary by 5%. I think a $25/week raise for salary or $2/hour raise for hourly is reasonable. Nannies like to know they are appreciated. My current family gave me a $2/hour raise recently and I appreciate them so much more for recognizing this as my profession.

It's been a few years since I had a nanny but I always gave a 3 - 5% "cost of living" raise. The entire time she worked for me, I never got a raise from my employer because of the economy, so I let her know that too! I also did a formal performance evaluation at the same time, to link her pay with her performance at least informally.

Hi!
Before having kids, I was a nanny. In my experience, each family would give different amounts from $1/hr-$4/hr but the truth, is as corny as it may sound, the idea that they thought I was doing a good job with their children-their most prized possessions!-was the real value of the raise! It's the most rewarding, fun, exciting job but it's a lot of work and unlike a job with adults you don't get a pat on the back or a compliment from the big boss to keep ya going so it's nice to feel that you're appreciated--not to say that the kiddos hugs or paintings or smiles aren't great too! It may not be a serious corporate job but it's sure an honor to be trusted with someone's little ones. To have a part in shaping and teaching them is amazing but a huuge responsibility. They get big sooo fast, you want to make everyday count, fun and enlightening and the parents make such a sacrifice going to work to provide for them that you want to set them up with a happy kid when they come home and that's a big task.
I'm sure whatever you are able to give will be appreciated beyond monetary value 100 fold! Happy 4th! =o)
