Question About Vitamins

I wondered if anyone had any experience with giving their children fish oil vitamins or supplements. I have seen the ones for adults in the stores, and a couple of brands for children.

What can I do next?

I had been wanting to try them with my 3yo son for a while and they had a sampling of the Nordic Naturals DHA supplements at the grocery store I frequent. The supplement comes in a small round capsule form, with the fish oil liquid inside. We call them "bubbles", which pop when bitten in the mouth. My son thought they were the greatest and ate all 4 (the daily recommended amount) right there in the store. Needless to say I bought some and he has them everyday. He loves his bubbles. I have to say that I thought to myself that they must really taste like strawberry (it says strawberry-flavored on the bottle), so I tasted one. Nope, just tastes like fish oil to me, with a slight strawberry smell and flavor. I couldn't take them on a regular basis, but he loves them- go figure. He doesn't generally like fish, so it's weird.

I gave my girls one by Nordic Naturals called Children's DHA; it is a liquid and flavored so it was easier to get them to take. I also take the Cod Liver Oil one from Nordic Naturals and it is flavored and the only one that does not cause me to burp up fishy yuck. Great product...sold at Sprouts or a natural health store. I go to Mike's Health Collection in McKinney.

IF you are looking for some wonderful vitamins that have all the nutrients your children need, then look into the Melaleuca VitaBears! My kids love them and because of the patented process I know my kids are actually absorbing the nutrients. Check out my website www.tx.parentsunited.com

My daughter and I both take Carlson (Norway) LIQUID. We started with Nordic naturals and later changed to this 1.
The sprouts pharmacy section guy told me it was better to get the adult liquid for us both and just give her 1/2 tsp. He also said that the Carlson product was as good as nordic naturals. Its about the same in pricing except Sprouts had it for 20% off in April.
The liquid has more fish oil than the tabs, so you get more each serving. Also, it has more servings per $ than the tabs/gels and its more "natural" - he said.

Fish oil provides omega 3 fatty acids which are essential for brain development in children. That said read the other posts on the mom asking about "great multivitamin".
I am a distributor of the Nutrilite brand of health/nutrition products. They have an omega 3 supplement for kids that comes in a gummy form. My kids love the taste.

I give those to my younger son (my older son takes the adult size cod liver oil capsules). I've used several brands. Coromega is a fish oil supplement (both DHA and EPA Omega 3s) that's orange or chocolate/orange flavored. My son likes the latter. Carlson's makes a kids chewable DHA (orange flavor). Nature's Plus makes a product labeled "Animal Parade" that contains an Omega 3/6/9 combo. These are lemon flavored and they contain the fish oil and borage/flax/olive. So, it varies as to what he takes on a daily basis and he's picky so it's nice for him to be able to choose. And, he likes all three of these. You can find all of these at most health food stores or places like Sprouts and Whole Foods. I buy alot of supplements online once I find the brands I like at www.iherb.com.
