I don't take them, but my MIL and my husbands grandma (93) swear by them. They believe they are overall more healthy because of them. I believe she orders them online. I don't know the brand or the website, but could ask if you want me to. PM me if you are interested.

I recommend Florajen brand. They make one specifically for vaginal flora health. I am a pharmacist and I think they are a good quality product. They are approximately $15 for 30 capsules and you keep them in the refrigerator. Your pharmacy may have to order them in. Hope this helps. Here's a link to their website

I have never heard of using them for reproductive health. I've heard of using them for immune and digestive health though.

Probiotics can be found anywhere. They are very expensive though. I've found the best place to purchase them is a warehouse club such as Sam's or Costco.

I eat yogurt every morning. I also take the Florajen. My pharmacy keeps it in stock.

I highly recommend Dr. Ohhira's/Essential Formulas probiotics. They help maintain digestion. They're available online. Best prices are on Amazon and mynaturalmarket.com.

I have IBS and take them. I try to buy the capsules with the highest active cells I can find. I usually just get the store brand and they work for me.

I have heard that the refrigerated kind are much more effective, though. I figured if the shelf-stable ones didn't work, I'd switch, but haven't needed to yet.

I take them because they are suppose to keep your digestive system healthy. I hate yogurt so don't get the health benefits there. I buy at a health food store (ones that need to be refrigerated). I am not consistent though. My children eat a ton of yogurt with the live cultures and they rarely get digestive issues compared to other children. Hope this helps!

I take Florajen regularly and love it. Works very well for vaginal health ( I NEVER get UTI's or yeast infections or anything while on this) as well as digestive and overall health. Highly recommend. It is the only probiotic I have used that makes a noticeable difference. And I agree with your OBGYN - this will give you overall health. When your gut is healthy, the rest of you tends to function properly.

I see you are in Naperville...If the nutrition store is still there on Chicago Ave/Maple Ave, I would go there.

There are different types and various pricing depending on what they contain. With that in mind, you may want to call your doctors office and ask for the specific microbe that you should take.

Telling someone to take a probiotic is like telling some to drink something but, not telling them what to drink.

I've heard of them for digestive issues but never for reproduction issues.
Yes there are supplements but a lot of the time a good yogurt with a live culture will do the same thing.
Oooh, I suppose if you suffer from a lot of urinary tract and.or yeast infection issues the probiotics might help cut down on that.

I've tried probiotics to help with a constipation issue I was having and it worked too well - it gave me diarrhea - it works better for me than any laxative.
But that's probably just me.
I know others who take them and have no problems.

I like Gr8-Dophilus by Now Foods:

I feel like it helpful for immune system during the cold/flu season. Also helps to maintain healthy flora as well as treat and prevent vaginal and urinary infections. After I started taking probiotics I started to have much less cases of yeast infections and UTIs. (Sorry for TMI!)
