Pregnant or Not? - Chesapeake,VA

I've always had a normal period. I started birth control when I had a cyst on my ovary when I was in 9th grade. I'm now 21. My husband and I decided to try having a baby before he leaves for deployment and because I lost my health insurance from my parents and have been waiting to be put on his the past three months now. I got my obgyn to give me a month of birth control since I was out but then I moved and still couldn't get an annual exam. So after my pills were gone at the end of January we decided we would try. My period never came at the end of February. I have a regular 28 day cycle. So three days after it didn't come I took a test because I had been really light headed and getting headaches really bad along with cramping. It came out negative. I waited four days and took another one, a different kind, still negative. I waited another week still negative. I'm coming up on the end of three weeks without my period. I feel very bloated, moody, crampy, headaches, tired, extremely nauseous, and others. I haven't changed my routine. I moved in January and still had my period at the end of that month, I'm not stressed, I haven't changed my daily routine, and I haven't changed my exercise. I don't know what I should do from here. Can anyone help or give some advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just want to reply to some of the people that have answered me. I am on my husbands insurance now. We got married at the end of December so it took awhile for the military to process all of the papers. It took so long to process the papers because they lost them and the lady in the office was messing up, we weren't the first couple it has happened to, so we had to keep going to different people. I couldnt be covered until the lady in the office got me on his page two. I don't have a peach card? We moved from pa, but I lived in Virginia when I was little. And I'm NOT stressed about moving because it only took us a weekend to move in and that was at the beginning of January, so what is there to stress about? I'm not stressed about him deploying yet either. His ship is in the shipyard and it doesn't deploy until beginning of 2017 plus he is thinking about switching branches so I don't see anything to be stressed about there. We want to have a baby before he deploys but he doesn't want to miss a lot of the first year which is why we are trying now. And I know I have a 28 day cycle off the pill because that's how it was when I got it in 6th grade and had it for three years before even beginning the pill. I appreciate everyone's advice on what to do! The research I've done says you can get pregnant the first month off the pill but if not it normally only takes three months to get back on track. And two months are almost down and I'm making a doctors appointment to find everything out.

Go to the dr. and get a blood test. I have a friend that never tests positive on an hpt. She has to have the blood test.

Nope, you're not pregnant. Your body is trying to get used to the HUGE change in hormones.

If your husband wasn't about to be deployed, I'd recommend using an alternate form of birth control for a few months. Honestly, your body needs some time to recover. It's a shame that you didn't stop the pill 6 months ago and use something else to prevent pregnancy. But your circumstances are pushing your deadline. Even so, you may not be able to conceive right now.

Are you taking pregnancy vitamins? You should. The best time to start them is when you are trying to conceive. They are even telling men now to take them while trying to conceive.

By the way, you say you aren't stressed. You're wrong, sweetie. You just moved, you're very much wanting to conceive before your husband leaves, AND your husband is leaving. Why you'd think you're not stressed is beyond me. You might tell yourself you're not stressed, but your body knows better.

It takes a while for your hormones to get back to normal after being on birth control pills for a while. Call your ob/gyn tomorrow and ask about this, but I think it varies from person to person.

If you don't have health insurance go to Planned Parenthood. That's what I did when I was young and only had a part time job. Only a doctor can tell you if you are pregnant, not strangers on the internet :-(

Be sure your insurance is fully in place before you get pregnant. In some cases it is considered a "pre-existing condition" (or so I've been told).
Pregnancy and childbirth is expensive.

That's my advice.

Really, how can a group of mom's know whether or not you're pregnant And over the Internet too?

Know that hormonal birth control seriously messes with your natural hormones. I suggest that if your period doesn't come by the time the next period should arrive see a doctor. The Dollar Store's tests are just as good as the more expensive ones.

I urge you to learn more about fertility and how your body reacts to birth control. You can find information on the Internet.

C., it could be from going on and off of bc that is doing it. You could also be pregnant. I didn't test positive until almost 6 weeks pregnant, so when I took a test in week 5 is said no. Both times I was pregnant. Each person is different. I don't understand why you aren't covered by your husband's military insurance, but planned parenthood is income based, so they will help you with little to no fee. Also, since Obama Care came along, there are no "pre-existing" conditions, or there isn't supposed to be. And, everyone should have health insurance, so maybe contact your state or whomever you get it from where you are are. I have a feeling that even though you aren't stressed, your body is, and you should have a heavier than normal period within the next month if you aren't pregnant. Good luck!

How do you know you have a 28 day natural cycle? The pill MAKES you have a 28 day cycle. You've been on the pill since you were 14ish - your natural cycle could be 60 days and you wouldn't know. It typically takes about 3 months for your body hormones to regulate after coming off of extended pill use. I would thing you are not pregnant and your body is just trying to adjust.

I think if you're in doubt, I'd go to the doctor and have them do a pregnancy test there.

I think it's about 10 days after the egg attaches to the uterine wall that the hormones start changing (which will lead to a positive test). So it depends on when you ovulated and egg was fertilized. For some women that happens later in their cycle.

If you just went off the pill and tried getting pregnant the first month, your hormones could (and probably were) a bit messed up. So it's hard to know when your actual period would come. So being late ... might not mean you were actually late if that makes sense.

You can have headaches and bloating etc. just from going off the pill. My body always went through some adjustments. So that is not always an indication.

Not sure if that was helpful (I don't think we can really answer this for you) but I wish you well :)

Welcome to mamapedia! Thank your husband for his service and sacrifices to our country.

I'm confused. You stated he was going to be deployed and now you say he'll be deployed in 2017. Which is it?

I know the military can be slow, but as long as you have your marriage license/certificate? You are covered. The moment you got your peach colored card? You were a dependent and covered.

You need to go to a doctor and have blood test ran. If you are having these symptoms but the tests say you are NOT pregnant? You might have another health issue.

If you are at Norfolk, VA - you might be having allergies. I don't know where you came from, however, it's different down there and to top it off - it's a new environment for you. So it could be environmental.

Go to the clinic. They will help you.
