Potty training---------HELP PLEASE

I had a hard time potty training my middle son. At almost 3, I finally put regular thin underpants on him so that when he wet himself, it soaked all his clothes and was extremely uncomfortable. He did it once, and never did it again. I found out that the pull ups he was wearing were so absorbant, that it didn't bother him to wet his pants so why should he take the time to go to the bathroom when he was in the middle of playing?! I don't know if it will work for you, but it's worth a try.

I have four boys and one baby girl. I started potty training my three yr old twins(one is very stubborn) back in July, EXHAUSTING!! You really have to go three complete days, ALL THE WAY and he will be potty trained! Wake him up one morning and put a t-shirt and underwear on him, hide the diapers. Take him every 15-20 minutes depending on how much drink he has had, as he starts to get it try stretching the time out. Even if you have to sit and talk for a little while. Just don't push while you're in there, read a book or talk, there will be accidents just try to stay composed and talk to him about it and have him stay by you while you have to clean it up. During nap let him wear underwear, try not to give him a drink about an hour before he goes to bed and make him potty before bed, same at night, just be ready when he gets up to go straight to the potty. I am still taking my twins again before I go to bed at around 11-11:30pm. I am a true believer in consistency, it can be done and it is hard but with your help and love he can be ready to do this at this age. Good Luck!

Hey, my name is S. and I'm going through the same thing with my son. He is also three and we are potty training. What I've been doing is putting him in big boy underwear at home and only using PullUps when we are out in public. He still gets busy and forgets but he will go use his potty most of the time.
If it makes you feel any better, his grandmother told me that his father was 5 before he was totally potty trained. They just need to care if they are wet and some kids don't.
Congrats on being a cancer survivor. My aunt has had breast cancer and melanoma, and is still around. Stay strong all things happen for a reason.

My son also knew he had to go potty but refused to go. He would go in he pull-ups or in his underwear, he simply did not care. I made him go without pants. He knew that he would get in trouble if he went on my floor, so it forced him to use the potty. He had one accident, and after 2 weeks he was in underwear. It is worth a try!

I know of this really awesome book on potty training....its called something like babys potty, or potty time. both come from www.thechildrensbookrack.com there have been many people for years to have success with potty books. you read them and have them sit on the potty chair. also, you can do a sticker chart...each time he potty's then give him a sticker to put on his chart all by himself. make a big game/party celebration of it. kids love to play games, they like to think they are in control, and they love to be rewarded when they win. try this and let me know what you think. good luck.

Hi W.- I am new to this site, this is actually my first post. I have a 4 yr. old little boy, a 13mos little boy and a little girl due to arrive in Nov. Just a little about me!
Is your son around other kids that are potty trained? I know that when my 4 yr old was going through the potty training phase, it happened because there were other kids doing it. He was going to LaPetite Academy. They had the cutest little potties, tiny versions of a regular toliet. He has been using the potty since he 2, with no re-lapses or issues. But I honestly think that if it wasnt for the fact that he had other kids his age doing it, it wouldnt have been so easy.

My daughter was hard to potty train. She wouldn't use the toilet even though she had no fear of it. She would come straight to me and tell my that she had to go potty and she was going in her diaper. Finally I had had enough and put her straight into toddler undies. It only took a couple accidents before she was heading to the toilet. Toddlers get so used to the convenience of diapers, and wetting them is so much less uncomfortable than cold, wet undies. Another thing that could have contributed to it was that she likes to have control over everything, so when I had given her the choice too many times and she didn't use the toilet because I wanted her to, I had to force her into it, persay. Since then I have only had one accident with her because she had the flu last winter. Once she realized that running around in wet underwear with pee pee running down her leg was miserable she made a huge effort to go to the potty and stick with it.

My son was a little over 3 when he finally caught on. I had tried to train him months prior but he wasnt interested at all. Then one day I put the potty in the living room...I gave him rewards..and he caught on right away. No real training was involved. He did all his business in there from day 1, and I really believe it is because I waited until he was ready.

Is he wearing diapers or pull ups? I took those away and put regular underwear on him. That way he could feel it if it got wet.

As far as the potty training goes, I recommend www.pottytrainingsolutions.com, they sell a product called PODS and believe me they work. Something about them is so much better than pull ups and my daughter was in the same place as your son and she potty trained before we used up the container. Very effective.
As for the cancer, congratulations on recovery. I would get on as natural a diet as you can, eating as many whole foods in their natural state as possible. Foods have very healing properties and there have even been studies on diet alone curing cancer. the thyroid is something you will deal with the rest of your life, and you need to get on a good thyroid supplement, not synthroid it is not good for you, you need to be on something all natural that contains the two chemicals that the thyroid produces. I would look into getting a naturopathic doctor, they can help with the thyroid medications and getting you on a good diet to help with your health. I wish you the best. Take good care of yourself.

Actually, there was this woman who posted for the request and said that she has used these things called PODS. I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. Well, let's just say that we ordered them last friday, they arrived this past monday on the 11th and my daughter has been wearing big girl panties for almost a week and has only had 2 accidents.
