Everyone said that potty training a girl would be so much easier than a boy. But I'm here to tell you, my (almost) 3 year old is a stubborn one! We have tried just about everything. She has actually gone to the restroom on the potty 6 times at my MIL's house (her caregiver when I am at work), but she doesn't have any desire to wear big girl panties, PullUps, or anything else that has to do with going potty like a big girl. We have told her that we would put her in dance class if she is potty trained, but she doesn't care, even though she LOVES to dance. Do any of you great moms out there have any ideas on getting her interested? I really don't want her to be 5 and still be wearing diapers. TIA!

What can I do next?

Our daughter turned three in July and was a slow potty trainer also. We did the run around naked at home method. She never has accidents when she is naked but will if she is in underwear. When we leave the house she knows she has to get dressed so if she wants to leave she will bring you her clothes so keeping her dressed away from home is not an issue and once she got used to going to the bathroom on the "big potty" she pretty much eliminated accidents when we were away from home. The only lapses we have are when she falls asleep in the car. The other negative is now that we are mostly potty trained she still wants to be naked at home. She walks through the door when we get home and starts stripping, lol.

Our 2 year-old daughter was very stubborn about the whole thing. We bought the big girl panties and tried everything. One of the boys at daycare went through his last stage of potty training and was a "big boy" going on the potty chair and that's all it took. She came home that night and hasn't turned back since. It's amazing what motivates them some times. She has had an accident. We have been using pull-ups for night time but she hasn't woke up with a wet one yet. I thought she would never get to start kindergarten because she wouldn't be potty trained...

Had the same problem until one hot day I put her swimming suit on with out the pull up. I sent her and brother out to play in sprinkler. She came running up to the door. "I need a diaper" she didn't want to go in her swim suite. I kept her in swim suits all summer. Then in the fall I took her to get a little bra and panty tee's we said is was a new swimming suit. She didn't have one accident in her suite.
You say she likes danceing see about a dance costume.
Find out what works for her... she will get it. You can also talk to her about dance classes. Young girls need to be potty trained before they can go. Set a goal... go watch a dance production. She would be able to move alot more with out the diaper and it really doesn't add to the costume. She will notice that none of the girls on the stage are wearing diapers.
Have a dance day with her. Let her go with out the diaper and dance away on a non-carpet area.

My 3 year old has been the same way. Everytime I tell her that big girls do this or that, she tells me she does not want to be a big girl, she wants to be a baby. I decided one day that we were just going to do it no matter how frustrated we both got. So we didn't buy anymore diapers and got pull-ups only for nighttime. We let her pick out her own Dora underwear and bought some stickers and jumped in with both feet. When she woke up in the morning we put the underwear on and I just asked her if she needed to go and started keeping track of the time of day that she went potty so that I could ask her around those times. If she went in the potty, she got a sticker which is what she wanted more then any treats that we tried. M&M worked for a while but she always wanted the sticker. At first we did a lot of laundry. I now understand why people say to let them run around naked! It has been a long road but she is now mostly potty trained. She still wears the pull-ups to bed at night but she does pretty good during the day. It doesn't happen over night so just be patient and consistant. Get dad involved. Have him make a really big deal out of all the stickers that she earned when he gets home from work. Those kinds of things. Once you start, DO NOT go back no matter how frustrating it becomes. She will get it. One other thing that I have noticed with my stubborned child is that the more of a big deal I make about it when she doesn't go, the more she resists. Now, if she has an accident, she has to go change herself which also encourages her to go in the potty. Good luck! Don't pull too many of your hairs out in the process. :)
