I am trying to get my kids more involved with other kids we are on a tight budget so I can not afford daycare my son is 5 and my daughter will be 2 in may. My son is a little behind compared to other kids and we have been trying everything to help him out but I am a stay at home mom who's husband is gone for work mostly all week long so I do not get much adult time either plus we just moved to South Bend and we do not know anyone here. So if anyone would like to get together with our kids and play or if you know of any activities that are free for young children then I would appreciate it.

Thanks
A.

There is another email address you should check out. Michianamoms.com. It is very informative and will help you get connected with other moms in the South Bend area, and some things that are available in the area. Enjoy.

Hi neighbor!

I totally understand a tight budget, but I have the site to the park and recreation department activities:
http://www.sbpark.org/rec_guide/0to5.htm
Residents (with proof) will be the cheaper rate.

I took my son to storytimes at our local library. I am not sure which one you are closer to, but here is the PDF for times and locations (and it's free!):

I would sometimes schedule a couple a week at two different locations! ;)The Virginia Tutt (Miami/Ewing) location does crafts based on the story themes. I am not sure if other locations do that too.

Here is the city's web site for general information:

Once summer starts, Mishawaka has great sprinkling parks (they're also free). We enjoyed the one at Merrifield park:

There is a pool for a fee. Just browse the parks.

I hope this helps.

I live in South Bend as well. My husband and I have 3 boys ages 10,7 and 4. We live on the south side of south bend. What area do you live and maybe we could get together sometime with the kids. I work part time doing construction and my husband is a full time diesel mechanic.

We can take the kids to the park or go walking.
