Planning an Event - Need Suggestions

Hi Mamas - I'm looking for suggestions!

My best friend has cystic fibrosis (CF) and last year I started doing the Great Strides walk which benefits the CF Foundation. Team Nicole - the team I created in honor of my friend - is probably not going to raise as much money this year. A few walkers have found that they do not have the time to dedicate to fund raising like last year - which I completely understand. I am trying to come up with ways to make money on my own to still try to meet our team goal of $3,000. The walk is only a couple of months away - so I'm trying to come up with quick ideas. Has anyone had fundraisers in the past that they found worked for them? This disease has become so important to me - I want Nicole and I to celebrate our 80th birthday together. :-)

These are a couple of things my brother and I brainstormed about...
*Having a fund raising party at my house - have a cookout - hot dogs/chips/beer/sodas, etc. Try to find a band that would donate their time - most likely be something during the day. I would have to find out if our homeowners assn. allows me to have a band. :-) I would definitely invite all the neighbors.
*Have a give-away - for all that donate, have a drawing for an ipod shuffle (with hopes that this would give incentive for donations)...this could be in combination of the other things -and the purchase would not come out of any money that is donated (I would purchase the ipod)
*Have a community picnic - I live in Murphy - find a location that would allow me to have a community picnic - have face painting, balloon toss, events for kids, etc. I think this would be more difficult to do in such a short amount of time.

I'm not really sure what would work. Our team did great last year. I guess I keep thinking that each year I want to do better - so that is what I am aiming for.
I appreciate any suggestions - and your time.
S.

I live in Murphy, too, and would be glad to help! Maybe some of the new, local restaurants would give away $10 or $15 gift certificates for free advertising. What subdivision are you in?

If you have an event at your house, maybe you could do a cookout/pot luck - that way you won't have to be responsible for ALL of the food. Party City sells tickets for raffles, may you can raffle off some donated prizes.

Maybe the fire station/city hall would let you use their grounds.

Hi S.!

I am an Independent Jeweler for Premier Designs and would like to help you out!! I would be willing to give you a portion of my profits to help you out for your fund raiser. If you are interested, I can send you some catalogs. You can either pass the catalogs around as a catalog show, or invite people over and I will set up the jewelry and they can see it all in person and make purchases that way. I earn 50% of all my sales and would be willing to give you 30% of my profit. The sales would also earn 30% in free jewelry from the net sales, so that free jewelry could be a nice gift for your friend as well.

Feel free to call me if it sounds like something you may be interested in. It's probably easier to explain over the phone! :-) ###-###-####

Good luck!

I do not know how up you would be for this, but my husband used to have an event every year to help with childhood cancer. There is a big event called St. Baldricks (generally around St. Patrick's day), and basically you have people sponsor you (or someone else) to shave their head. My husband found some guy friends that were willing to shave their heads, then they went around getting donations to actually do it. They had the head shaving at a bar, that was willing to allow them to hold the event there (I am sure you could find somewhere else if you wanted). It worked out great because even people at the bar who didn't know anything about it went around the bar raised money and had their heads shaved. My husband raised $4000, it was great!! People will pay money to see others do things a little out of character!

It really depends on how crazy you want to get.

Hi There S.
I have heard that CiCi's Pizza is sometimes willing to help people with fundraising. (I know there isn't a location in Murphy but perhaps you can find a location close)
Perhaps Sonic would let you do a charity carhop night. (I know some folks in college did that.)
Maybe the new Baskin Robbins would be willing to do a charity night.
Contact some local businesses and see if they are willing to do anything to help you out.
Good luck to ya.
T.
