Pinworms/Threadworms - Did You Successfully Treat Your Baby?

My soon-to-be 7 month-old son got pinworms/threadworms somehow - I think at his last pediatrician visit a month ago. He started to try and scratch his bottom (over his diaper) 3 days ago and at a walk-in pediatric appt (to address the itching), I spotted a worm when I looked in his diaper. He (along with my husband and I) were prescribed Mebendazole, which we took that same day and are supposed to take in another week. He doesn't have access to his bottom since it's covered with a diaper.

My son is itching a lot at night, which I am aware is part of this ordeal. I am super paranoid and washing everything like crazy. When I change his diaper I am ultra careful. I hate having to live like this and his itching is breaking my heart. I am terrified that I won't be able to keep him from getting rid of the worms or keep him from getting them again even with the medicine since it seems that the eggs are highly contagious.

Has anyone been successful in getting rid of pinworms/threadwoms successfully with Mebendazone... and without being overly compulsive about washing everything in sight. This is really consuming my life!

Thank you for any help!!

My daughter got pinworms last spring (I think from her babysitter at the time). One dose of the medicine (plus washing everything in sight) and they were gone. A local school had an outbreak from a sandbox at the school. Its really gross but it happens. It is highly contagious, yes, but with the meds and washing all the bedding every day for two weeks and you should be fine. Best of luck to you. Hope your little guy is better soon!

All I can say is I could not sleep at night if my child had worms. The worms come near the edge of the rectum at night...that is what causes the intense itching. Give him an enema to get rid of as much as you can. Poor thing....and keep his fingers and fingernails clean and dirt free...this is where most of eggs are transferred when they put their fingers in their mouth. Hurry up and do it PLEASE!

My daughter had pinworms twice, a few years apart. Both times she was successfully treated with Mebenazone, which I will say it's a wonder drug. She didn't have any side effects and by the next day, she was totally fine. I gave her the meds and washed EVERYTHING in HOT water.

We have no idea how she got them but she was a huge thumbsucker so who knows what she got on her thumb and then put it in her mouth. Gross, I know, but that's just the way it is!

Good luck and I know it's gross and hard to watch, but in my experience the relief if pretty quick. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.
