I am going to buy my turning 2 year old boy a pillow. I was just looking for advice on where to purchase one. I would assume they make smaller pillows for toddlers, but I have not seen any. I have tried Babies'R'Us, Toys'R'Us, Walmart, and a few other places. Thanks for your help! :)

I ordered my girls the toddler size pillows from the One Step Ahead catalog. The are way to full and thick. My mother in law bought the girls regular standard pillows, opened the seam and removed some of the stuffing. That was much better as a first pillow for them.

I found a very thin pillow at Target. It wasn't a toddler pillow, it was just a very soft, thin pillow (and cheep!). It has worked great for my 3 year old daughter, and since it is not a smaller lengthwise, regular pillowcases fit on it.

I have 2 toddlers. When they got their toddler beds, they got pillows. I got them the $5 ones from Walmart. Mainly I bought these because I was thinking they would soon be potty training, and having accidents in bed, and ruining their pillows. Turns out it was a good thing to purchase the cheap ones anyway because most nights they don't even sleep on the pillows. They start out with their heads on them because that's where I lay them when I tell them goodnight. Once they are sleeping they are all over the bed, and nowhere near the pillows. At this point the pillows are generally just there for them to get used to. You won't have to worry about neck support or anything because most toddlers don't care for laying on a pillow. It's only the thought that mom, dad, brother, sister...have pillows and "I want one too". There's no reason to feel guilty about cheap pillows for now. The $5 Walmart ones are also pretty thin, kinda like the cheap hotel pillows, so it won't be a shock to suddenly have this huge thing in his bed. Btw, it's a standard size pillow.

One Step Ahead sells smaller pillows, almost travel size with the pillow case to match. They are limited on pillow case styles: pink or blue/cotton or flannel which can be personalized if you'd like. They may sell more sizes, now I haven't checked the pillows out in over a year.

Hi C.,

I ended up getting three pillows:
1. Pottery Barn kids - down (hypoallergenic) - our favorite
2. Pottery Barn kids - synthetic (hypoallergenic) - it's a little thicker than down so less favorite
3. Ikea - foam neck one

All are great and we have them in grandma's house and other places we tend to travel to on frequent basis. I recommend Pottery Barn Kids: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/p006/index.cfm?pk...
Good luck,
J.

Hi C. ... Have you looked on the site called onestepahead.com? They have some great items on that site, and I know they have some great toddler pillows. They're the perfect size, and I think they're hypoallergenic too. Happy hunting!

If you don't want a standard size pillow try an airplane pillow. I had a friend (who doesn't have kids and still travels ;)) pick one up for me and I've made my own pillow cases for it....my daughter, now 11, still can't sleep without it. Good Luck...J.

Why not make one? Buying the fabric and filling of your choice is far easier than schlepping all over the planet looking for what you want. I'm no domestic diva, but a pillow is one of the easiest things to sew and you can make the pillow as flat or as fluffy as you want.

I have bought small travel pillows for all of my children and then made pillow cases for them. The first two I was able to find at a craft/sewing store but the last one I just bought one month ago from Walmart. They are not in the pillow or the craft section. Try looking over where the purses and belts are. For whatever reason they had them over there. They were $9 and came with a pillow case.

Buy a travel pillow. They are quite smaller than a regular pillow, and probably considerably less expensive than a toddler pillow. Try at walmart or kmart, or any other department store. Good luck!

Both of my kids used travel sized pillows in the beginning. They are cheap and small and perfect for their little heads. I was worried since they were both stomach sleepers but it was perfect. Now they both used regular size pillows (I still buy a flat pillow).

Hi C.,
I started out my toddler son with a camping pillow. I bought it at EMS, but I know they have them at REI and other sports-related stores. It was small enough for his little head and it was perfect to get him used to sleeping on a pillow. We left the camping pillow in his bed for about four months, and now he sleeps on a very flat full-sized pillow.
Good luck!

Hi C.,

I did the same thing you did when my daughter turned 2. I looked everywhere but couldn't find what I was looking for, then I did a web search and I found a perfect toddler pillow at onestepahead.com. My daughter loves it, I also bought the little pillow cases that matched with her name on them. BTW, not cheap but they are hypoallergnic too, so I thought that was worth the money. Good luck.

Don't spend too much money on a pillow for a toddler bed. They will start night time training soon and pillows are extremely difficult to keep washing. I buy cheap wal mart pillows for my daughter and wash them when she has accidents but once you've washed it two or three times it needs to be replaced. Accidents in bed are just a part of being a toddler so nothing on their bed should be too pricey. They have those plastic covers for pillows but I assume that if you want to spend a good amount of money on a pillow for your toddler you want them to be comfortable and plastic is not comfortable.

Hi C.,

I gave my 2 year old son my old pillow. That way it was already a bit flattened and it smelled like me, which I hoped would be comforting to him.
JoAnn's Fabric Store has some very small pillows (I guess if you want to make one yourself?). Perhaps that would work. Good luck!
