I am trying to find out about an infection called "Bv"Bacterial Vaginosis. Ever since i had my tubes retied and went 8 months without having a period all of a sudden after every period i get this infection. my Dr said it is not an STD and it is common in women I never heard of this before i found out i have it. I have had it 3 times in 5 months and i am so sick of it returning. i have searched the net spoke to dr's and all say same thing. I have only been with my husband in 10 years, i don't use any kinds of products your not supposed to use to wash. Maybe it is not clearing up totally? I had this and it took almost a full month and 3 types of meds to fully clear it up. I hemorraged after my first child, they did not do a D&C because the u/s looked clear and sent me on my merry way....within a week I had Bacterial Vaginosis and as I stated it took a loooong time to fully go away.
Maybe go back for a check up within a few days of finishing the meds to have your Gyn culture to make sure the infection actually cleared.

I did a search for natural treatment of this infection. Here's what I found: You can apply vinegar to the outside of your vagina. You can mix 2 ounces of apple-cider vinegar with 6 ounces of water and drink this 3 times per day. I bought the Probiotic capsules and take one daily. They work great and I find I have much less stomach problems, too. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Having worked as a nurse in a "clinic", I wouldn't recommend using anything such as douche or Refreshe or anything else (only medication prescribed).

Aside from all the other responses about saliva and yeast infections, I would recommend you changing out your underware - taking a close inventory of what you wear. Cotton is best, no thongs (save the sexy panties for special nights). Get lots of air to the area - try to go "pantless" in the evenings and sleep sans undies.

Also, I think your doc should have gone over "spreading the BV back and forth b/t your partner and yourself.

Abstain from sex while you're treating the BV and ask again if there's any tx your partner should undergo. It's not an STD in the traditional sense and it is something that is tested for during pregnancy and something that shouldn't be present during a vaginal birth.

Best of luck to you - I hope this resolves quickly. And IT's NOT YOUR FAULT...

I have bounced back and forth between BV and yeast infection since I was about 18. The antibiotics used to treat BV can cause a yeast infection and vice versa, so it is a bad cycle. This is what I have found through trial and error.

There is a great product called "Rephresh" that helps to maintain the proper PH balance in the vagina. this product can be found at most local drugstores, but it costs about $30 a month to use continuously and there is no prescription preventative treatment available, only the yeast infection inducing antibiotics. I have found the using a Summer's Eve sensitive wash daily and before and after all sexual activity greatly reduces the frequency of infections.

You can also find acidophillus capsules in GNC. when taken daily, this helps to maintain vaginal and intestinal balance. Additionally, I find the when I consume more refined sugars I have more 'issues'.

Good luck, I can go for months without an infection and then it all starts over again and I struggle to get healthy again for months.

You and I both, I hate BV, I've been suffering for almost 10 years. They've treated my fiancee and I still get it. I have all but given up on meds and am now trying some "home remedies". I KNOW douching is a bad thing but I've done some research on-line for holistic cures and have found the following: try mixing 1/2 tsp baking soda with water and use that as a douche - I am trying it tonight actually. The research I've done on ACV has indicated that it makes the vagina more acidic and can agravate the infection even more......good luck and please let me know how you do, I'll do the same.
