Period After Breastfeeding

Just wondering if anyone knows what is the "upper limit of normal" for how long it should take for periods to return after breastfeeding. I stopped nursing completely 8 weeks ago and haven't seen them return yet. And, yes, I've checked a pregnancy test and it was negative. How long before it's abnormal to not get a period back?...

What can I do next?

as a certified La Leche League leader, i can say that 8 weeks is certainly nothing to be alarmed about...sometimes it can take 6-9 months for your cycle to return as normal.

although, with my two boys i got my period just 4 months after they were born and they were still breastfeeding so go figure!! LOL!

Hang in there! any more ?s, feel free to message me! :)

I know it depends on lots of different variables - also each person is different. I didn't have a cycle until my son was 19 months old. My sister ended up getting pregnant before actually having a cycle again...thinking she wouldn't get pregnant (her son was about 12 months old at the time). I'm sure that no matter what your time frame is, it would still be considered normal.

I second the previous poster. It can take a while for your body to get back in sync. Give it some more time, but if you're concerned you can talk to your doctor. Though, they will probably mention starting you on birth control to bring your "cycle" back.

My period came back 5 months after I had my daughter. I was still breast feeding and continued to do so for 7 more months.

With both my kids, I didn't have a "normal" cycle until probably a year after they were born. It was different with each one, probably because of the differences in breastfeeding but I wouldn't worry. It can take a while for all the hormones to go away even after your milk has dried up.
