I was wondering if anyone knew of a pediatrician that does circumcision. My problem is that I am doing an at home birth and my midwife does not circumcisize. And I have heard of quite a few peds that won't take a baby that was birthed at home. Any suggestions?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I am definitely getting on the phone tomorrow to start calling all of these peds and setting up appointments to see who is the best fit! I will let you all know which one I chose!

Your pediatrician doesn't even need to know where the baby was born. We just switched peds for my newborn baby and he never asked where the baby was born. Also, you might read some threads about circumcision to decide if you really are committed to doing it. My two sons aren't circumcised and it was the right decision for us.

NO! Don't do it! I once met a a woman whose baby was circumcised at birth, and he couldn't walk or talk for a whole year!

Dr. Terry Omura. His office is connected to the Cottonwood Hospital. He was our ped. for 7 years before we had to move (and couldn't take him with us!) and we absolutely loved him. He performed a circ. on all three of my sons that had him as a dr. and we've never had any problems. We absolutely loved him.

Good luck.

Dr. Mark Templeton. Sorry I don't have his contact info, but we don't live in the area any more. My son was born in the hospital, but none of the doctors there did the plastibel circumcision which I preferred, and Dr. Templeton did. They did it in the office when he was 1 week old.
And, on top of it, Dr. Templeton is a FANTASTIC doctor. I highly recommend him.
Good luck with your at home birth!

I'm not sure why a ped would care where a baby was born, but I would highly recommend Jed Vandenberghe, he is in Holladay. He is an amazing doctor and I know numerous patients of his that has chosen delivery at birth centers or at home-in fact his office is right next to Birth and Family Place. :)
Anyway, he is absolutely wonderful (even after moving we still drive an hour plus to see him), and has done a couple of my boys in office, one of them at just a couple of days old, and another that had to wait a few weeks to have it done.

ooooookaaaaayyyy.....My, my, this thread became strange, didn't it? I actually dropped in to just urge you to do a little research and reconsider the circumcision. I "accidentally" didn't get the first son done, and after reading about the trauma it causes, I very deliberately decided not to do my last son. I really do believe it's a terrible thing to do to a little boy. I also resented the thought that he was born with something "wrong" with him that needed to be fixed, rather than coming out quite perfect.

That's only my opinion...but there's some pretty good research to stand behind that opinion, also.

Best wishes and blessings to you, and may you have a wonderful birth!

I've never heard of a pediatrician not seeing a child because of where the child was born, but I don't know why you need to tell them. As far as circumcision -it needs to be done by someone who is also a surgeon and unless the pediatrician is specialized in pediatric surgery, they won't fit that bill. Do you ever see an OB GYN? If so, you should call and ask. It's probably going to be difficult without having the baby in a hospital and having the OB do it.

Have you considered having a religious ceremony? I think its called a Brise? (Spelling) I would contact some synagoges and see what they say. Best wishes for a happy, healthy, safe delivery.

Call Dr Jennifer Cox at Alpine Medical. ###-###-####.

She did both my sons' circumcisions there in the office, because I didn't like the method that the hospital used. Very good, even allowed me to be in the room (although she would understand, too, if you didn't want to be). It's been several years, and she's changed practices, so I don't know for sure, but it shouldn't be too hard to get the info over the phone.
