Allergic Reaction to the Flu Vaccine?

Hello everyone,

My daughter is 15 mo old, and yesterday she has received the flu shot for the first time (along with a booster for dTAP and Hib). A few hours later I have noticed hives on her legs and some separate patches on her lower back and over her right shoulder. I gave her Benadryl and she was fine. This morning she had a fever of 101.4 and hives on her left arm and again over her right shoulder, but nothing on her legs or back. I gave her some tylenol and the rash went away as well as the fever. However, she was very tired. The doctor says he has not heard of such an allergic reaction after getting vaccinated, but what else can it be???. She was fine until she got the vaccinations. I am really confused. Did anyone else experience that kind of thing with their kids?
Thank you so much!
H.

HI -
My son also had a reaction when he had the flu shot at around the same age. The shot was given with other vaccinations (I can't remember which ones). He broke out in a full body rash that lasted for a few days. His pediatrician had the same response - he never heard of such an allergic reaction.

If you are close to Fullerton I HIGHLY recommend coming to my store, Belly Sprout, this Saturday (Dec 6 from 10-12noon) for Dr. Lauren Feders "VACCINATION SAFETY WORKSHOP". She is a homeopathic M.D. and is a leading authority on vaccines. Her lecture is engaging and incredibly informative. Our parents walk away feeling empowered and ready to make their own personal decisions on vaccines whether it is not vaccinating or altering the schedule. You can read more about Feder at www.drfeder.com or go to our site www.bellysprout.com. We have an audio interview with her. SHE IS NOT TO BE MISSED!

I would recommend doing your own research and empower yourself to answer your questions. My husband and I chose not to vaccinate our boys, but this is not always for everyone. There is a growing movement for parents to take back the health of their children and after completely reading the research, many find alternative routes to vaccinations. A good website (there are many listed on Feders as well) is www.holisticmoms.com, for book references.

An allergic reaction to a vaccine is not something to take lightly. Your doctor should be reporting this to CDC and you should tell him to do so. Each child is different and have different immune systems and that is why some react differently. I spoke at length with Dr. Feder about my own son, who showed signs of food allergies early and we both agreed it was a good thing my child was not vaccinated. His reaction could have been detrimental.

There is also a wonderful acupuncture doctor here in Fullerton I send all of my friends and customers to; Dr. David Karaba and his number is ###-###-####. He might be able to help your baby with restorative health post vaccine. He is a wealth of knowledge and very loving.

Pleas email me if you have any questions. This is an issue that is very important to me and I feel passionate about helping families with resources and empowerment.

As a Dr. myself, my wife implored me to respond. Bottom line is your Dr. is highly trained, and within that training is to recognize an adverse reaction to vaccinations. This is as classic as it gets and this type of reaction is even written about in the product insert. Although most M.D.'s and the manufacturer will claim it as mild, it is not. The next round of vaccines can put your child into a severe reaction leaving her with severe lifetime disabilities. Good luck with your Dr. even recognizing this thought process. Check out http://www.supportmakena.com/ for a testimonial of a patient of mine (I did not give her shots) who was seriously injured by vaccination. I also recommend reporting the reaction to http://www.909shot.com/ and learning the truth about vaccination at http://whale.to/.

Finally, if you want the best for your child, I would recommend finding a pediatrician that wants the same. I am in the Newport Beach area and have several referral sources to pediatricians that actually listen to the parent and do what the parent wants (not that your pediatrician does not)and does not force or scare parents into vaccinating their child.

Your children CAN get into school without completing their schedule of vaccines. The state of CA. allows for three seperate exemptions; religious, medical and philosophical. After a reaction such as this you can check the medical box with documentation or anyone can check the philosophical box and sign on the line. School officials will tell you that if an outbreak occurs (usually among the vaccinated) you must come get your child. Legally the school cannot say anything.

I highly recommend avoiding all dairy and look into a heavy metal detox ASAP and rebuilding the injured tissue with whole food nutrition and supplementing with cod liver oil.

Blessings,

Hello,
I'm sorry this happened to your daughter. Please click on www.909shot.com and read about the vaccines that she recieved yesterday. There is also an area to report adverse effects of the vaccines and this should most definitely be done!
Good luck,
C. Tanaka

Has your daughter been tested for egg allergies? Eggs are one the medium that is used in the vaccine. I have known several people have had similar reactions due to egg allergies. I am surprised your doctor did not mention that. It may be time for a new doctor.

H.,
I think someone else suggested a name of a pediatrician who will work with you on the vaccine thing...good advice...
My knee jerk reaction is DEFINITELY get a NEW pediatrician. I can't believe yours would play it off like it's nothing. That is ridiculous, they should have brought your child in immediately.
Anyway, I really like our pediatrician office, and I know that one of the Docs there is very willing to work with parents who don't want to vaccinate on schedule. His name is Dr. Culmer, phone number is ###-###-####, and he is in San Pedro. My kids actually see Dr. Lin and Dr. Wagoner (the other two docs there), but Culmer is great too. He was wonderful with our neighbors when they had a very sick newborn with RSV. He visited often in the hospital and even came to the baptism when the baby was better!

has she had eggs yet, the vaccine asks this question on the info sheet you have to sign before she gets a flu shot, she doesn't sound like she was fine, and something did not agree with her, I am surprised the doctor giving her all of the vaccines at once, really is stupid because he knows if giving a vaccine for the first time, never give more than the one, in case a reaction occurs, just like your daughters. Keeps tabs on her, write down anything that doesn't seem right, research the flu vaccination see if anyelse has reported a reaction, aol md has lots of good info.

I just want to SCREAMMMMMM!!!!!!

Do not let any doctor give your child mulitiple shots. Please get yourself very informed now that your child has had a reaction to vaccinations and also have the doctor report this to the VAERS. Your doctor is also lying to say they have never had a negative reaction to a vaccination. Yes, I know, harsh words but very true unless you are their only 50 patient with only ten having received any vaccination of any kind.

Now, let me calm down a bit and breathe. First, stop with the Tylenol and don't use it. It tells the immune system to take a break for awhile which is what you do not want it to do. We have used Motrin with great success.

Everything is going to be all right and to make sure I get this right I am doing some more research for you.

Have your daughter take an epson salts bath in the meantime. You can get the salts even at the grocery store, medicine isle on the bottom. 1/2 cup in the water with a dash of baking soda.
