Does anyone know of a Pediatric Dentist who will allow a parent to stay with the child during the entire procedure, even extraction and sedation?
My friend has a very sensitive, high need 5 year old who needs to have a tooth pulled and can not find a dentist who will let her stay with him during the procedure.

What can I do next?

try Preferred Dental on the corner of Ann Arbor Rd. and Ann Arbor Trail, I have been able to be in the room for the entire exam (my son even sat on my lap for part of his first exam)

Frankly I don't understand how a dentist could prevent your friend from being with her child. This is ridiculous -- I would never let my child alone in this situation. Maybe she just needs to discuss this with the dentist and staff prior to the appointment.

I admit I have not been with my son during his dental exams since he was three or so (I have my appointment with a different hygienist at the same time), I would INSIST on being there for anything other than a routine exam. You are your child's advocate when it comes to medical and dental care.

We go to the Dental Faculty Associates at U of M....they would allow me to be with my son if I asked, I'm sure. Actually, he sees the same non-pediatric dentist that I do, so your friend might want to try a FAMILY DENTIST, not one who specializes in kids - I hated the pediatric dentist we were assigned; he said to hold my son down when I brushed his teeth when he was young - nice way to get your child to hate the dentist and dental health for life! My son loves going to the dentist because they treat him like a client instead of a kid.

Dr. John Santoro is the best he is located in Riverview, MI. My DD has been having dental work done since she was 18 months (she is now 4.5) and we have seen them all because I was never really happy but Dr. John is the best.

Downriver Dental in Lincoln Park. I've stayed for everything but the 2 second xray. Any caring dentist/doctor should allow the parent to stay for most procedures as long as its not harmful and you wont be in the way. Some will ask the child if they want the parent to stay or go. After all, the child is the patient.
They are very good with children, they don't talk down to them or as if they weren't in the room. They are family dentists, and also have pediatric hygenists. The ortho is only there on Fridays, or every other Friday. They give out little prizes after each visit.
