my son's 16th birthday falls out on Father's Day. Every year I have my immediate family over for dinner. This year I am taking my family out for dinner to celebrate both occasions. Although it is not necessary I was looking to have small favors on the table for everyone to take home. Does anyone have a new and fresh idea that is not expansive or over the top. I already have done wrapping hershey bars and I did think of having balloons with candy anchors. Also for the fathers i thought of lottery tickets. Or perhaps just put them in the balloons as well with the candy. To me this is a fall back if nothing else...
I know a boys 16th birthday is not festive like a girls and I do know it is not necessary. please respond only if you have a nice suggestion and nothing negitive.
Thanks in advance,
D.

Hi Dawn,
We usually do the scratch-off tickets as table favors, everyone likes that. A plant to take home is also nice. You could also make some type of item with his photo on it.
Good luck and I hope your son enjoys his birthday. My daughter is turning 14 the 20th, so next year her birthday falls on Fathers Day.

How about going with the driving theme - maybe giving out keychains? Depends on how fancy you want to get. Something for the car? Carwash gift certificates? Target has a whole aisle of car toys. Have fun!

I think taking your son out to honor his 16th birthday is a wonderful idea, as well as combining it with Father's Day. When my daughter turned one, we went to www.MyMMs.com and got personalized M&M's. They are really cute - they come wrapped in individual favor - sized bags, and would probably be able to double as balloon weights. You can get I believe up to 2 different colors with 2 different messages in each bag, so the fathers and your son could both be acknowledged. I believe now you can even have pictures put on them (how cool is THAT!).

Good luck with your quest, and enjoy your celebration!

I LOVE parties and I love all the little details - including favors...so fun. I like the lottery ticket idea. How about making a music CD? You don't have a lot of time but once you get the playlist together you could easily make the copies. you could pick all sorts of different meaningful songs then put a nice picture on the cover and just easily type up the song list. I just did this for my sons 2 year olds party. I picked all sorts of songs that I loved and that other adults would love, they had meaning to me about my son and I picked good kids songs too - that weren't totally annoying for adults to listen to. Everyone LOVED the idea and I still am told how people listen to the cds and kids and parents are happy! I bought songs from Amazon.com - so easy to download and cheap too or I copied them from existing cd.s

Hi Dawn,
I know I completely disagree with you about a boys 16th birthday not being as festive or necessary. I think it is very necessary, though not as "flashy" as a girls party.

With that, I do think it would be important to invite some of his friends or have a party just for him. If you plan on doing some big party for your daughter's sweet 16, you should do something for your son also.

As for party favors for your sons friends, maybe movie theatre certificates, gas cards for those who drive, cell phone certificates for extras like ringtones and such, itunes gift cards.
good luck
