Parenting Resources for My Mom's Group

ok, before I even type this, I already know the possible comments I could receive. I have a preschool/child care in my home. I also have 2 dogs. Recently, I watched the dvd series of The Dog Whisperer to help me with my dogs. As I was watching it, Cesar was talking with the dog owners about how their behavior affects the dog's behavior. As he continued, I thought to myself, if only I could get the parents of my preschoolers to understand that concept. I found myself thinking I should share the dvds with my families so they could see that if you can have this success with a dog, with some basic changes in the owner's behavior, then perhaps they could see how easy it could be with their own children who can be taught to understand logic & reasoning. Believe me, I learned far more from The Dog Whisperer dvds than I did from the Super Nanny dvd they showed at the last parent group meeting I attended. You could also do a "book club" kind of thing with a few really good books. One I recommend & actually give all my families is "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen, & How To Listen So Kids Will Talk". It is simple, makes great sense, and has lots of parent stories at the end of each chapter. Good wishes to you. Please post what you find, as I am very interested in this as well. Peace, B.

I found out about a program called Grooming the Next Generation when I had a friend, who had three children all under 5 all well-behaved! It’s a program taught by Dani Johnson, who was recently on Oprah and ABC’s Secret Millionnaire.

Th program comes with audio CDs, DVDs, and a work book.
The program teaches you how to groom kids from age 1 to late teens. You will learn what you need to do to discipline your child with love and more importantly, groom your child to succeed in life by teaching them basic skills they need.

The three I've used are Love and Logic, Calmer, Easier, Happier Parenting and Developing Capable Young People. All are good and I learned different things from each.

Would you be kind enough to post the age range of your children, please? That may help you get a better answer. (some moms groups stay together when the kids are in secondary school....) :)

Have you thought about doing something with Love and Logic? They have info for all ages...
