My neighbor recently lost his beloved dog. She was shot and killed yesterday, and they are not sure who did it and why. They have another dog who was shot through the back thigh area, but he lived. A police report has been filed. Unfortunatly, she had five puppies, two weeks old. My neighbor has to work, so a friend and I are nursing the puppies for the next four weeks, until they are ready to give away at Wal-mart. They are cute, boxer mutts....not sure of the father at this time, but I can not figure out a name for them. I am caring for three out of five puppies. I have two males and one female. If you know of a name I might use, please respond to my request. Thanks for your thoughts in advance.

thank you so much for all your advice and information on who to contact, when the time to let them go. Right now it is still touch and go, some days I think they will die, and other days they seem strong. The replacer milk we are using is not really liked by my puppies, so it is difficult to know how they will do each day. My husband is going to tractor supply for new milk, to see if they will like it better. I love them and are so adorable. Here are the names I have chosen. Laila, Cassey, for the girls, and for the boys, I have chosen Rocky, for my tough fighter. He is alway stong, and raring to go. Bernie, because I think he looks like a Saint Barnard. Then last but not least Buddy. Everytime I pick him up, and only for him, I sing the song, from the commercial of the boy doll, called My Buddy. My Buddy, My Buddy, My Buddy and me.......yes, I know I am weird. Thank you again for your e-mails and support. I will send pics to those who requested.

They are all doing great. It has been touch and go, but I think they will be fine. Lalia, who has always had a faraway look in her eyes is now becoming more active. She even plays with her brothers and sister. Rocky has become finiky but I think, he is just getting enough milk and mesh, so he refuses to be bottle fed. I will continue to keep updating, and I will start taking pictures for those who asked, now that I know They will survive. Thanks again
If they are part boxer, contact boxer rescue. I'll bet they can find homes for them FAST. People love puppies, but they prescreen all their applicants. They have to pay a pretty hefty adoption fee, and sign a spay/neuter contract.

How tragic for your neighbor! I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that your neighbor is able to find good homes for the puppies. Also that they catch who shot the puppies' mom!

Unfortunaltey most breed specific rescues will not take in mixes. However you can contact them for resources if you need help. We foster/volunteer with a Boxer Rescue in the area. Considering what happened to their mother what about naming them something with a Western Theme like Butch, Sundance & Cassidy. Everytime pups are born into our rescue the mother is given a name and the pups something related to it
Ex. Celeste and her Starts (pups had Star names)

I know one of the other girls at the ophange in the movie was Duffy, but that's the only other one I remember.

First, thank you so much for your compassion in carrying for those puppies after your neighbor's tragic loss. Pets are like children in my family so I am sure your neighbor is deeply grieving.
As for names, what about naming them after famous boxers/fighters since they are all Boxer mixes and undoubtedly have a will to survive without their mother? You could name the little girl "Laila" after Laila Ali and then come up with names for the two little boys. I am not a boxing fan, so I don't have any off the top of my head, but I think "Laila" is pretty cute.

I have to say that we got one of our dogs at Wal-Mart! She's the best! Be careful who you give them to, but I don't have a problem with it. Our Shelby has been the best and healthiest pet we've ever had and she was free at Wal-Mart. We had her spayed and she's a part of our family. Just wanted to share a good experience.
