One on One Childcare

Does anyone know of a great childcare provider that only accepts 2-3 children at a time? I have a 13 month old baby and I have been home with him but may return to work soon part time. He is so used to attention, I don't want him to get lost in a very crowed day care facility. However, I do want him to interact with other children. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you so much.

What can I do next?

I don't know if this helps you or not, as I am located in McKinney, but I only keep three little ones at a time and have one opening. You can email me at ____@____.com if you are interested.

Hey T.,

I completely understand your concern. I was only able to stay home with my son for the duration of my maternity leave (which was only 3 months). I was a WRECK when it was time for him to go to daycare!!

I think it's great that you want him to interact with other children. I have definitely seen my son's development spike over the last few months and he's 9 months now. He watches some of the kids in his class that are a few months older and he mimics what they do. So he started talking, crawling, then walking/gliding a lot sooner than some of my friends' kids who aren't in daycares.

To address your concern for not wanting him to get lost in a sea of kids... all Texas daycares have a 5:1 teacher/child ratio rule they have to adhere to. So no more than 5 babies per 1 teacher. Most quality daycares use a 4:1 though. And it really just depends on the location of the daycare. My son attends Kids R Kids and it just recently opened so there are only about 6 kids in his class. When he started at 3 months there were only 4. As they get older they move them to an age appropriate room. So the number of kids in a room at any given time can change.

So my advice would be to research daycares in your area and find out what their child/teacher ratio is and how many kids are enrolled in the classroom your son would attend.

BTW-I absolutely love his daycare! I also find that being at school rather than at home with me has helped with developing his social skills as well as strengthening his immune system.

Best of luck to you!

Good morning, T.,
My next door neighbor is a liscensed daycare provider and is a very dedicated mother. She has 2 toddlers and usually takes only 1-2 children at a time. You don't say where you live or work, but I live in Allen. If you want more information, contact me and I'll give you her name & number.

Look for a home care provider. http://www.pickofnorthtexas.com/
These are ladies who are registered home care providers.
YOu may be surprised what happens when he is around other children- my little guy is so "needy" with us, but loves a small group of kids. I do agree with you on a "center". I like a home with a few kids.

She usually only had one other child at the same time.
