OMG Please Tell Me Someone Has a Solution (Itchy Preggo Belly)

I am 34 weeks pregnant with my second baby and I am going nuts with how ITCHY my stomach is. I know that no amount of cream can/will prevent stretch marks and I am okay with that and have come to terms with the fact that yes I have them yes I am getting more but there has got to be something that helps with the crazy itchiness of your skin stretching
Please someone tell me what has worked for you - I even went as far as to put a bunch of lanolin nipple cream on my stomach today and even that didnt work =(

What can I do next?

When I was pregnant w/ my son, I used the pink body cream from Mothercare (the maternity shop that was at the mall then). I really didn't have a problem when I was pregnant w/ my daughter. I am also very fortunate because I ended up not having any stretch marks.

I would just keep lotion on your tummy to keep it from drying out. During my second pregnancy my stomach itched too! It was aggrevating at times. One time I took my bristle brush and scratched my tummy! Aaaahhhhh...felt good! LOL Not sure what else could help it.

You probably have a PUPPP rash. You can ask your doctor for his suggestions on how to help the itching.

I had it with my oldest dd who is now 14. Back then my doctor said the only thing I could do was baking soda baths. I hated taking baths so I filled a small container with water and lots of baking soda then use a wash cloth to put it on the affected areas. I would get up 2 or 3 times a night to do this. I would wake up in the morning and would be powdery white.

The rash went away about a week after I had my dd. While labor, I had an epidural. I could still feel the itching but the epidural prevented me from feeling anyone scratching my legs for me.

I hope you find some relief. That was the most miserable part of my first pregnancy.

i itched like crazy the second time around too...

My doctor's advice was to use a ton of cocoa butter, shea butter, or oil... olive oil (for cooking) really helps... but you might start to smell like spaghetti LOL! Also, drink drink drink water- gallons (ok- exaggerating). It will help your skin become hydrated from the inside out. Also take lukewarm baths instead of really warm ones and use the absolute minimum in soap. Try not to use petroleum or alchohol based lotions or creams (like lanolin) because they actually dry out your skin more... so they only temporarily fix the problem.

Good luck!

Do not walk...RUN to a natural food store and get Pine Tar Soap. IT is brown and smells bad, but it was my only relief. I had PPPP and my rash started at the top of my belly and ended at my knees. I showered several times a day just to use that soap. It worked wonders for me. Good luck!

I had something similar with my 3rd pregnancy only it was my legs. Turned out I wasn't drinking enough water. Try increasing your water intake cut down on the salt. And Baby oil right after you get out of the shower helps lock in moisture. And don't scratch that will only make the itching worse.

You might want to call your doctor. If you are having excessive itching skin, it could be that your liver is not functioning properly. This is not an uncommon condition in pregnancy. And, it can become dangerous for your baby without the proper oversight of your doctor. Sometimes they will have you deliver the baby a couple of weeks early to prevent toxicity in your baby. Many women itch a little bit, but if it truly is as you describe, it can be something much more serious. If your liver is not able to remove toxins properly, it manifests this way.
