Have any of you tried the recipe on the Quaker oatmeal box? Are they soft and chewy or crunchy? I am trying to find a simple recipe for soft oatmeal cookies but haven't had much luck.
Thanks

Depends on how long you bake them. They are pretty chewy when I make them. Add butterscotch chips...so good!

I haven't made the Quaker ones but I found this recipe on Allrecipes.com:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Soft-Oatmeal-Cookies/Detail....

They are soft and very yummy. The first time I made them, I ended up making 4 more batches that week and my sister made 3 batches. Oatmeal cookies have never been at the top of my favorite cookie list but they are now after making this recipe.

Don't over bake them; it dries them out and makes them crunchy. This is true for any cookie. You may have to fiddle with the time a bit, but if I want a softer cookie I usually decrease the recommended baking time by 1-3 minutes.

The quaker recipe is the only one i use. They are yummy!! The mom's are right, if you don't overbake they are still a bit chewy.

This is my favorite recipe for oatmeal cookies. Most other "oatmeal cookie" recipes are really cookie recipes with a little oatmeal tossed in for appearances. These usually come out nice and chewy and full of oat-y goodness. My favorite add-in isn't raisins or nuts, but dried cranberries. They're fantastic!

almost any cookie can be made soft and chewy, reduce your baking time. They dont "look" quite done- their done.

Google Betty Crocker Soft and Chewy Oatmeal Cookies and you should find the recipe there. I have a great Oatmeal Cookie recipe but it isn't real chewy. It's not a hard cookie but it's not real soft. Alot of the texture depends on how long you bake the cookies. If you over bake them they will get harder. If you take them out right when they are done they will stay softer. You can soften any cookie up by putting it in a plastic bag or plastic bowl you can seal tight and stick a piece of bread or apple slice in with them. This also works on brown sugar that has hardened. Not sure how it works but it does. There was also a web site my friends were sending around called Grandma's Cookies and it had a lot of great recipes. I no longer have the link but I am sure you could Google it.

Yes we did over Christmas - They were soft the night we cooked them but by the next day they had hardened. They still got eaten though LOL

Yes, this is the recipe for me! My family loves it! One time I made a batch & brought the cookies to my workplace & everyone raved about them, so you can't go wrong! Very chewy & delicious. Follow the instructions & baking time precisely & store in airtight container after they are cool. But these will "vanish" pretty quickly! :)
