Nursing Bra Recommendations

Hi, I'm expecting my second child in September and am trying to troubleshoot before my little guy arrives. I need recommendations for good, comfortable nursing bras. I never managed to find any with my first baby--I didn't know where to shop, didn't know how much was too much to spend, couldn't find anything comfortable, etc. I made do with some from Kohl's that never really fit right and stabbed me in the side all day long...ouch! This time around I want something better; I know it's out there somewhere! FYI: I have plenty of around-the-house soft & comfy nursing bras, what I need is ones that are appropriate for wearing outside the house, to work, shopping, etc. I don't have a large chest in the first place, so either no-wire or underwire will probably be okay. I know you lovely mamas in cyberspace can help me out...thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Hi E.
There is a website www.figleaves.com
They have awesome bras and they are having a sale right now. I bought cheap bras from Walmart and some expensive ones from figleaves, and there is a big difference is support. My suggestion is to measure yourself, so you get the right size. If a bra is pinching you, it's just not the right size. There is a guide as to how to measure yourself on figleaves website.
Elle Mcpherson bras are amazing and wireless.

I have had the best luck with Walmart. Just make sure you get the ones with the plastic clips, I accidentally found one with the metal "eye hooks" Hard to hook back and be descreet.

I recommend going to Special Addition on North Lamar. The staff there is very helpful and they have a great selection of nursing bras and tops. As someone else also responded, I'd highly recommend waiting until your milk comes in to go nursing bra shopping. I tried to buy one ahead of time that ended up not fitting once my milk came in. Wait until it comes in and then get the staff and Special Addition to help size you. They're great.

Petticoat Fair on Anderson Lane or Special Addition on 38th and Lamar. They're the best at fitting you and giving you recommendations.

It is really best to wait and get fitted after your milk comes in. I went to the Bali outlet in San Marcos before I had my first child. They measured me and gave me a bra that was supposed to fit after baby/milk. It was not nearly big enough! I ended up at Petticoat Fair. I highly recommend them! They will measure you and get you exactly what you need. They are a little pricey, but it is worth it. It is really hard to predict just how much you will change after your milk comes in because everyone is so different.

Petticoat Fair, on W. Anderson Ln.
They will hook it up! Everyone I know used them.
They fit you and bring everything to you to try on, and tell you which one actually fits. They might ask you to come back a little closer to delivery because you'll be bigger then and closer to what you'll be like when your milk comes in.

E.,

Congratulations on your growing family!

The first time around, I started out with the nursing bras at BabiesRUs, seamless, no padding, with underwire. I also went to Special Addition and was fitted there, but honestly, I ended up wearing the cheapy BabiesRUs ones more, because at the time, I was more comfortable in underwires (Special Addition all but refused to sell me underwires - because they usually cause problems). Also, I liked the hooking mechanism on the BrU ones, better. There are some bras where you slide a piece into another, kind of like the buckles on your stroller. Other nursers have a hook where the cup meets the strap, then a hard plastic loop thing that hooks onto it. I prefer the later, because they're much easier to hook one-handed (you just kind of grab the loop thing, bring it up to the strap, and drag it down the strap, to get it to catch).

The second time around, the BabiesRUs bras weren't cutting it, so I went to the Hanes/Leggs/Bali outlet down in San Marcos, where they have a couple nursing bras, one with underwire, and one without. The one -with- the underwire actually gave me problems with plugged ducts, and just wasn't as comfortable as I thought it should be. I ended up getting the one without, and have been wearing them for two years, now. (They have the good hooking mechanism, too.)
Here's the link for it, if you can't make it down to the outlet. Just don't forget to buy a bigger cup size to accommodate your visit from the boob fairy. ;-)
