Hello!

My friend from Arizona is coming in to see me next weekend, and I am looking for something fun to do. Right now, I am thinkin about just doing some shopping, but she can do that at home. She came here in October and we went to Frankenmueth/Bronners & spent the day there and at Birch Run. That was a lot of fun, so I was trying to think of something good that would be kind of like an all day thing like that.

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I agree that Henry Ford Museum (now called "The Henry Ford") is a great place to spend the day. And if the kids come there will be planty to keep them entertained.

Katie,
How great is it to get away for a day and catch up with an old friend (and a day w/out children)!! I love my children to death, but us moms need our time for ourselves as well!
Have you thought about going to a Spa for the day? There are so many local ones that offer packages for a whole day. Or, you can even just pick out a couple of services - like a pedicure and a facial!! If you can book a double massage, you and your friend can get them done at the same time, so you can sit next to each other and talk and catch up while you are getting a massage! Then afterwards, hit up a nice (kid-free) restaurant for some lunch and an afternoon drink ; ) (I personally loooove Bahama Breeze! And if the weather is nice, they have an outside patio.)
OKAY, I think I'm going to call up some of my girlfriends and do this very same thing! LOL!! Let us know what you decide and how it was!!!! (I look for ideas as well!)

Greenfield Village, Henry Ford Museum, Detroit Insitute of Arts, Detroit Zoo (one of my faves), Tigers Game, Detroit Science Center (http://www.detroitsciencecenter.org/%5Chome.htm) has a great exibit on the human body.

There are also tours of Medowbrook Mansion (Oakland University Campus). Cranbrook School near 16 and Woodward, has a science museum that is pretty good.

The Baldwin Theater in Royal Oak has low priced theater tickes. It's put on by amature actors that have years of pratice. Their productions are wonderful!! There's usually something going on at the Fox Theater too.

For night life, I like the Salsa scene. Check out www.salsadetroit.com, www.yasalas.com I perfer the yasalsa stuff as it's usually smoke free, but they only have monthy dances and a few other things in between. salsadetroit will have stuff for nearly every day of the week.

Sunday's at Sky Bar (above Sangria at 4th and Layfatte) in Royal Oak. Starts at 7:30 and it's a live band, so if you don't know the dance it's still great to hang out, watch the band and dancers. Reservations recommended.

So Katie, I think that should help. Hope you have fun!

I'm not sure but I have two friends that kkep very active with thier children so I will ask them for some tips. Wasn't sure if you were looking for something just for moms and dads or with the kids. Let me know. We just took a group of pre-schoolers to Cranbrook Musem and explored and saw an earth and many stars and planets in detail. Everyone really seemed to enjoin themselves. We hab also gon bowling and the kids are just now getting into it. One more thing we recently checed out was Pump it Up. The kids loved it and on certain days you don't need to pay full price and it was intereting for the cildren. Now if you want a moms/couples outing just let me know. If I can I will forward this to Denise and Francie.
Hope you hear back from them soon. Now that I read her email again it does sound of adult friendly is what she may ge looking for. Shall we mention Dort Highway he ha. My husband would act somewhat reserved, but he would certanly partack!
Thanks,
T.
