Noisy Backyard Neighbor - What Can I Do?

We moved into a house in N. Fort Worth (Keller ISD) at the beginning of summer. We love the house and for the most part, have good neighbors...don't see them or hear them very often.
Since the move, the neighbors directly behind us have had some get togethers in their backyard that last until all hours of the morning.(2:30a, 3:30, 4:, 5, 6, etc)
They don't play music, there is no pool...but they have loud conversations, loud yells, laughing, etc.
This happens any day....work day or weekend day...we just never know. Our bedroom is at the back of the house, so they always wake me up. I'm at my wits end. I've called the police once, but did not get any feedback call.
I have tried the city website, but can't find a city ordinance on noise limits (start/stop times), neighborhoods, etc. It's not easily searchable.
I do not know if these are owners or renters. I do not want to suffer repercussions. They aren't the most mature group around.(If my dogs go outside to go potty and they hear the noise in the back and bark, the neighbors (or their guests) will bark back at my dogs).
Sometimes it's a couple guys, sometimes it a whole bunch of guys and girls.
I can't put ear plugs in because I have a toddler in the house. My husband wears a cpap and can't hear a darn thing.
Anyone know any Ft. Worth cops and their advice?
Thanks in advance! Really don't know if I want to tear someone's head off or break down and just cry now-a-days because of this.

What can I do next?

Just call the non-emergency police number and ask what the ordinances are. When you did call the police that O. time, did it quiet down? If so, I'd just do that when they're loud. Usually the police call (if you give them the address when you call) or take a drive over & ask them to keep it down. I know it's frustrating. Hang in there.

I would just keep calling the cops until something gets resolved. I'm sure there is a local town ordinance that prevents noise like this after a certain hour. It's disturbing the peace.

Good luck.

Have you walked over and knocked on their front door and explained how much the noise is disturbing your family and ask for their help? I know it's much more common today to call the police or send anonymous notes....but that's as petty as their poor behavior. Plus, anonymity may make them even more angry...and their behavior could get worse.

Be pleasant, warm, understanding, and kind -- and let them know the late night noise is keeping your family up at night and you would like them to help them out. It's going to be MUCH more difficult for them to ignore your request (or retaliate) when you've asked in person, in a kind way. And if they really are the type of people to ignore a personal plea, there is *nothing* you can do other than involve authority to help enforce the local ordinances. But give the people a chance first. Set a neighborly example for them.

my husband and i also live in the kisd in a fabulous house and for the most have no troubles with the neighbors. like you our bedroom faces the backyard of the neighbors behind us and they do the same thing. no pool or loud music just loud conversations and laughing and they would leave their back porch light on all the time while we try to sleep. instead of going to the police we wrote them a note discussing our inconveniences and they actually came over and apologized and said they had no idea that our bedroom faced their backyard. never had an issue since. before you go to extremes give your neighbors a chance.

Hi A.,

I know there is an ordinance in place for noisy animals. What I suggest is to go down to the police department ask to speak directly with the officer on duty. Have all the information about your neighbors, name, address, etc. and draw a diagarm the shows your house in conjunction to theirs.

If you have kept track of the dates and times take that along as well. I'm surprised that the police did not intervene in person especially for noise after 10 on weekdays and any day after midnight. I would certainly talk to the officer about that and get a complaint number.

Keep us posted!

Blessings.....

If you don't feel comfortable talking to your neighbors about the issue, all you can really do is call your local police department. You can remain anonymous and they will send an officer out to listen for the disturbance. Sometimes a warning from a police officer will help to get control of the situation. We are in a different section of the Keller ISD but in our area the noise ordinance goes into effect from 9 pm until 8 am. I hope this helps!

We have a similar situation. The house behind us has a pool and it is a rent house. There have been some summer nights they were there to 3 or 4am. One night they had a party with so much beer the police were waiting and when it broke up several were arrested for drunk driving.

My solution was to send my dogs out at the crack of dawn. I have 3 and when they go out, they go in a pack and they bark. We also started the lawnmower at 8 am after a big party and let it run. Their bedrooms are in the back of the house like mine.

I have gone out and asked them to keep it down, but it never ended well. I hope you have better luck....

I would get a white noise machine for your room and use a baby monitor on low for the toddler. Also after 11pm I thought a city ordinance would allow the police to go and ask them to quiet down. Hope this helps.

My neighbors don't have parties.... it's just the 4 barking dogs in their backyard that drives me up the wall. I finally bought a box fan and now I can't hear a thing outside!

Good luck!

I live in an apartment complex and I have 3 noisy neighbors!!! When we first moved in, the people who had the balcony on the other side of the stairs had a dog that would run up and yap at our door... they also liked to have very loud conversations, put people on speakerphone, etc. at all hours of the morning. While I was pregnant it wasn't too big a deal, I slept on the couch anyway (more comfortable for some reason...) but once I had my dd it got old in a hurry. One night they woke up the baby, who started screaming... So I carried her out and asked them very politely if they could keep it down... Hard to argue with a screaming baby. lol. Haven't had any issues with them since...

Oh my gosh! I feel your pain! We had HORRIBLE neighbors behind us - SAME EXACT situation (hopefully they aren't the same people!). Anyway, they did the same thing. When they first moved in, I was pregnant and NOT happy to be woken up at 4 in the morning on a Tuesday night. I went out there several times asking them to keep it down, but they were incredibly rude. So, I quit being nice too. Made it hard to "love thy neighbor as thyself!" So, I called the Police - every single time. Then, they got even more childish by flicking their lights on and off (which shined directly in our room), playing the guitar, etc. Eventually, they sold their house and moved on, but it was a miserable 3 or 4 years. You shouldn't have to put up with it, nor should you have to make major changes to your life or home to deal with disrespectful neighbors. We were discussing landscaping to help create a sound barrier, but we were also discussing meeting with our City's code enforcement to discuss the issue, with a possible trip to court. Our issue was that their covered porch was just a couple of feet from our fenceline. I'm not sure if you have the same situation, but look into a sound barrier, but also meet with City officials to discuss the issue. If you haven't already been logging each time you call the Police, start doing it. This will help your case. Good luck - I know how uncomfortable you are!
