I can't believe my first niece will be turning 16 years old next month and I have no idea what to get her! She loves to sing and very
passionate about cheerleading. Anyone have any ideas in mind?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Since she loves to sing I ended up buying her a professional microphone and all the accessories that come with it. She said it was the best gift of them all.

I love what Wild Woman said: take her to lunch & shopping.

Then give her either a pair of birthstone earrings or ring.

You could also give her a cool, inexpensive silver ring that would be "hip"
for her age group.

One of my friend's daughters is having a milestone birthday this month. She has asked all of the women in her life (aunts, older cousins, family friends, etc...) to purchase a small (inexpensive) charm for her bracelet. We are each giving her a charm & writing her a letter on the significance of it & of the wishes/dreams/prayers we have for her as she matures. I thought that was neat idea.
If all else fails get her an itunes gift card :-)

here's the deal: gifts from the heart mean the most...even to teenagers.

Sooo take the time to spend the day one-on-one with her. Take her shopping, have a great lunch....& BOND.

This is your opportunity to create lifelong memories. :)

For these milestone b-days, I would make her a bouquet of flowers (real or artificial) and add some $16 gift cards on wooden sticks in the display- Pick some of her favorite stores or restaurants -most will let you designate the amount. good luck!

J., Welcome to mamapedia!!

AAAhhhh!! Sweet 16!! I remember that birthday!! I had saved from working and babysitting and bought my first car!! :) If she's getting a car - gas cards....something for her car...

If not? Create a memory with her....do you live close? If so - ask what her plans are for around her birthday and see if you can do something with her - a concert for a band that she loves...

If she's a cheerleader...maybe acheerleading camp???

Take her to lunch. Go shopping. I don't know how much money you have to spend, my mom took me out and bought me my birthstone earrings. I still have them, 31 years later.

Think about what someone close to you did for you on your 16th....if you know her well - which it sounds like you do - music....itunes gift cards...concert tickets...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Sweet Sixteen!!!! Is she getting a car?
Get something affiliated with having a car if she is getting one.

My daughter was heavily involved in cheer from 8th-12th grade. The football season in 11th-12th was very busy, everyone loves football. Most of the games were on TV and there were sports photographers all over as well. There was 1 photographer that had a knack with pictures of my daughter. He went on to do her senior pictures. For graduation, we asked him to make a poster for her, of her senior year as Captain of the squad. He took 3 of the best photos he had done and made an unbelievable poster for her. I had it framed and she was shocked. I like it so much, I want to keep it on the wall in my house!! It summed up her Senior year beautifully.

ITunes gift cards are great.

CASH is always welcome!

A special trip to a concert since she is into singing.

Depending on how close you are... a special girls day out.

Gift card. Very hard to shop for unless they have a unique interest I.e., my daughter got involved with horses at 6 yo. At 37 she has her own business
Teaching, training and managing farms. So gift giving was never an issue.
However, the average teen gift cards or I tune cards.

It's very hard to shop for teens. Most of them prefer gift cards of some type.

You may want to check with her mother to see if there's anything she needs. Or if her parents are giving her a larger gift (i.e. a cell phone), you can purchase some accessories.

Depending on your relationship with her, maybe your gift could be a special day out. She likes singing, maybe lunch/dinner and a concert.

I would take her to the best thrift store in the city. Give her a $50 spending allowance but not the cash. Have fun trying on jeans, looking through the do armed CDs and DVDs, etc. The gift is showing her the value of a thrift store. Then go out to lunch.
