Need Help with a 'Barney' Birthday Party...

Ladies,
You moms are the BEST resource and always have great ideas!!

I'm ready to throw in the towel and go with a different theme... My daughter's 2nd birthday is the beginning of next month. She is OBSESSED with Barney - so I had decided to give her a Barney themed birthday party. Here are my dilemmas:

-I have to make a cake (she is sensitive to wheat and dairy), so I can't get an already decorated store bought one. I have a gluten free cake mix that I can make with rice milk, but I would like to find Barney decorations or possibly a cake transfer. Has anyone seen these for sale around Columbus?

-I can't find 'Barney' balloons, other than those that I can order online. Does anyone know who, if anyone, will fill a helium balloon for you if you don't purchase it from them?

-I'm very limited on time for planning, and am getting stressed out about this.

Should I just give up on the Barney idea and buy what I know I can find (like Elmo)?

I'd love to hear your thoughts...

What can I do next?

Don't give up!

I was just at Factory Card Party Outlet for my son's soon to be birthday, you should have good luck there! Even call ahead to ask if they have balloons, etc with Barney.

I am also Celiac so can relate to the cake issues. Just make sure if you get a cake transfer that its GF. You could even explain your situation to your local Krogers or Giant Eagle or Walmart or Sams Club, they may sell you a transfer or decorations since they don't sell GF.

My son loves Thomas and we found a single Thomas candle at Factory Card Party Outlet. I usually make cupcakes so this will be perfect! I have a cupcake "tree" and will put his on top, decorating the rest in basic decoration.

Good Luck! I am also a dietitian so if you need anything else GF, let me know!

Cake Craft on cleveland Ave, (just south of 161) has a barney cake pan as well as several different Deco pacs (Deco Pac is the brand name). (If Giant Eagle bakery has a Barney cake, they will sell you the deco pac). I know that I have seen Barney themed stuff at both toys'r'us and Giant Eagle. Check out Giant Eagle just because they may not have it in stock if you give them about a week they might be able to order it. For my son's Birthday I got one themed balloon and several complimentary colored balloons and it looked great and cut costs. Good Luck

I have this very same problem with my son every year! He never wants a character that they sell in stores! Plus by ordering online you don't have to run store to store! I always find my supplies online. I have always been able to find a cake decorating package and balloons for sale. I usually get the balloons filled at a dollar store or I go to Kroger when I pick up the cake or last minute supplys and while I'm shopping they fill my balloons. I haven't checked the website latelty but we love www.birthdayexpress.com (I think) They have a great selection, and I always recieve items in a timely manner.I have also done the idea with cupcakes. It works great for little ones. You can buy the cupcake stand at Walmart or Jo Ann's, Michaels.

Edit- I checked for you online. The above website didn't have what you need. But, www.ezpartyzone.com does. Discount prices too! They have cupcake and cake decorating supplies. Both plastic so no worries. They have balloons, plates ect. All matching! I hope you have a great party!

Have you checked at Factory Card Party Outlet? There's one at Easton. And, there is/was a party store on Westerville Rd. and Polaris. Near that Giant Eagle. I don't remember the name, but we went once looking for stuff and they had a wide variety of things. Michael's can also have cake decorations. Good luck.

I agree with the other moms. Factory Card Outlet is great, and just about any grocery store or place that has helium will fill the balloons you have (even if you don't buy them there) for a small fee. You might also try printing a picture of Barney and try your hand at decorating the cake yourself. You could try sproutonline.com or pbskids.org for more ideas. Good luck!
